60th Annual Makawao Rodeo
Thursday – Sunday, June 1 – July 3:
60th Annual Makawao Rodeo. Thursday & Friday: 9 a.m., free admission -Qualifying Runs, all day. Bull Bash at 7 p.m. on Friday, $15 adults. Saturday & Sunday: 1 p.m., Rodeo (bull-riding, team-roping, calf-roping, bronc riding, mugging, barrel racing, break-away). Live band after Rodeo on Saturday. Saturday & Sunday rodeo admission is $10 adults, $5 for seniors and students, free admission for kids 10 and under. Free shuttle Saturday to and from town to watch the parade. Ki Hoalu Guitar Festival. A showcase of Hawai`i’s great slack key guitar musicians, presented in a laid-back, local-style outdoor festival. Bring your own beach chair, blanket or lauhala mat to stretch out on the lawn and enjoy an afternoon of music from mid-day till dusk. The lineup always includes many of your favorite musicians and recording artists, to make this an annual favorite Maui event; fun for families and for all ages. Free admission. St. Anthony High School’s Annual Ho`olaule`a. This Hawaiian celebration at St. Anthony is a long tradition of gathering both alumni and the Maui community for a night of ono kaukau and local entertainment. Now in its 27th year, the 2016 Ho`olaule`a will feature Maui’s own Ekolu, Malino, Matagi and Napili. St. Anthony Junior-Senior High School, Sullivan Field, 1618 Lower Main St., Wailuku. Parade begins at 9:45 a.m. along Front St., from Kenui St. to Shaw Street. Commentary Stations are at Longhi’s, Kimo’s, Lahaina Pizza Co., Cheeseburger in Paradise and Wharf Cinema Center. A Grammy winner and multiple nominee, throughout his career Hammond has been awarded many of the top Blues awards as well.
