Niaulani Nature Walk

Niaulani Nature Walk.
  A free, guided rain forest tour in Volcano. This one-hour nature walk travels through a lush portion of an old-growth Hawaiian rain forest on an easy, 1/7-mile loop trail. The walk introduces visitors to the native plants and birds of Volcano. Guides focus on the biological, ecological, and geological features of the area, and the cultural usages of flora and fauna by native Hawaiians. Open Cockpit Day – Honoring Women in Aviation & Aerospace

Open Cockpit Day – Honoring Women in Aviation & Aerospace.
Event will feature pilots, ground crew, military volunteers, and women pilots commemorating Women in Aviation and Women’s History Month. Guests will meet and talk with aviators who share their love of aviation. Wally Funk, one of the Mercury 13 (women who trained for the space program in the early ‘60s but were not allowed to participate) and the first female air safety investigator for the NTSB, will be the featured speaker. Ukeke Workshop with Lance Genson Mahi La Pierre.
  Make your very own ukeke in this hands-on workshop. Using bamboo, students will fashion the Hawaiian musical bow, the ukeke (approximately 20 inches length). The ukeke (not ukulele) is the only indigenous stringed instrument of Hawai`i and is used to accompany hula and mele, and for hoipoipo, or love talk, between lovers. Mahi will also share and teach participants a traditional mele ukeke. Kapa`a Town goes all out for its First Saturday of every month Art Walk. The main street is lined with vendors selling Kaua`i Arts and crafts, with some of Kaua`i’s best musicians and bands playing up and down the street.
