May Day is Lei Day

May Day is Lei Day.
  One of the biggest events celebrated in Hawai`i Nei has always been May Day. It is a day set aside to “make a lei, give a lei, wear a lei”. Enjoy a performance by the legendary Robert Cazimero and his Halau Na Kamalei o Līlīlehua. This performance will also include four additional halau hula. Other artists taking the stage will be Keauhou, Jerry Santos, Moon Kauakahi, Keao Costa, Marlene Sai, Horace Dudoit, and the Kawika Trask Trio. Welcome music by Kapena & Ei Nei. Alongside the unforgettable entertainment, there will be ono food, cocktails, local vendors, and lei stands. Bishop Museum, Great Lawn, 1525 Bernice St., Kalihi. Maui Humane Society’s Beach Buddies Visitor Program

Maui Humane Society’s Beach Buddies Visitor Program.
Do you miss having a dog to spend your day with? Visitors and residents can sign up to take a homeless dog out for the day from the Maui Humane Society animal shelter. The shelter is easy to find as it is conveniently located in Pu`unene (central Maui) on Mokulele Hwy., between Kihei/Wailea and Kahului. Program participants will pick “their dog” up at 10 a.m. and bring them back no later than 3 p.m. MHS provides all of the supplies, you just provide the fun! Lei Day Heritage Festival

Lei Day Heritage Festival.
  Activities will include a variety of Hawaiian cultural arts and craft workshops, including, kaula (Hawaiian rope weaving), lei-making, and poi pounding as well as live Hawaiian music and local Maui entertainment. There will also be a special presentation by Tom Fairbanks of The Old Wailuku Inn at Ulupono on Don Blanding, The Artistic Poet and Father of May Day. This is a free event.
