The King’s Parade & Celebration

The King’s Parade & Celebration.
Fabulous floral parade starts at 9 a.m. starting at the Vidinha Stadium heading up onto Rice Street ending at the Historic County Building. Pa`u island horse units, floats, walking & riding units and much more.  At the end of the Parade the Ho`olaule`a will begin with lots of Hawaiian entertainment.  There will be food booths, crafts, Hawaiian cultural demonstrations, along with hula and music.  Historic County Building, 4396 Rice St., Lihue.  8 a.m. to 2 p.m.  For information call (808) 635-7205.

Kamehameha Day Floral Parade and Ho`olaulea

Kamehameha Day Floral Parade and Ho`olaulea.
Parade will begin at 9 a.m. at the historic `Iolani Palace, 364 S. King St., Honolulu. Floats, horse-riding units and vehicles, all decorated with flowers, will process their colorful way to Queen Kapiolani Park at the base of Diamond Head, at the end of Kalakaua Avenue in Waikiki, 3840 Paki Ave., Honolulu. Here, an exciting Ho`olaulea (really big party) will be ready and waiting at 11 a.m. to fill the park band-stand with revelry and live entertainment lasting until 4 p.m. For information call (808) 394-0050.

  This special three-day celebration includes a huge Friday night block party on Kalakaua Ave., between Lewers St. and Liliuokalani Ave. Enjoy multiple entertainment stages featuring cultural performances such as Japanese Taiko drums, Korean dance, Hawaiian music, hula, and more.   The Obon tradition was brought to Hawai`i by Japanese immigrants and evolved into a social and cultural event, as well as a religious custom designed to honor ancestors through an evening of dance, music and merry-making.  Free.  Festivities and Dance schedules and locations are listed below (subject to change):

Free Weekly Hula Shows

Thursday Afternoons:
Free Weekly Hula Shows.
Kalāheo. Beginning May 10th, the National Tropical Botanical Garden (NTBG) will have free weekly hula shows every Thursday from 2–2:45 PM at the NTBG South Shore Visitors Center located at 4425 Lāwa‘i Road across the street from Spouting Horn. Hālau Ka Lei Mokihana O Leinā’ala will perform a traditional Hula show highlighting the “wahi pana,” sacred places, of Kaua’i along with intriguing stories of the Hawaiian people and their connections with the gardens. Dancers will be accompanied by live Hawaiian music.

  Enjoy the North Shore’s newest one-stop entertainment option – a weekly Polynesian ahi lele (fire dancing) show.
