Hula Kahiko Performance. Hula halau from across Hawai`i and beyond perform in a one-of-a-kind outdoor setting at the kahua hula (platform) in the Hawai`i Volcanoes National Park, located just a short walking distance from the Volcano Art Gallery in Ka`auea. 10:30 a.m. Audience members are encouraged to bring sun/rain gear and sitting mat. Held in conjunction with the Hula Kahiko performances, enjoy a display of “Na Mea Hula” (all things hula). Visitors share in a variety of instruments, implements and lei styles that play an integral role in the life of the hula practitioner. This memorable demonstration is hands-on and family friendly. Historic Hapa Trail Walk

Historic Hapa Trail Walk. An easy morning walk along historic Hapa Trail by the Koloa Community Association. Meet your tour guides at St. Raphael’s Church – this is the island’s oldest Catholic church, so your historical tour is off to a good start. Hapa Road Trail isn’t used anymore, but it was once a major route connecting Koloa and the Poipu area. Today, Hapa Trail has been designated by the County of Kaua`i as a pedestrian and bike way. On the walk, the guides will share many interesting stories about life in the plantation days and the Koloa Field System. They will share knowledge of archeological surveys, history and point out archeological sites and archeological preserves in the area. Following the walk, participants will enjoy more chances to “talk story”. The walk and tour is offered free of charge. Refreshments will be served. All walkers will receive a brochure with a history of the area east and west of Hapa Trail, learning about na wahi kupuna (archeological sites and preserves), as well as the ‘auwai system that irrigated the Koloa Field System. 10th Annual Mango Festival. This event will honor Big Island of Hawai`i mango varieties. Featuring mango grafting, growing techniques, mango trees for sale, mango recipe preparation and sampling, Hawaiian culture and hula, and entertainment. This is a zero waste event. This year brings a family focus to the event, with free games by Got Games! for all the keiki. Parents can enjoy a selection Kaua`i’s best food trucks – including Porky’s, The Fresh Shave, Kickshaws and more. Imu Bar & Restaurant will be open, offering family & fine dining and a bar option with a birds eye view to the entertainment. Prince Lot Hula Festival

Prince Lot Hula Festival. The largest non-competitive hula event in Hawai`i, the festival honors Prince Lot Kapuāiwa, who helped reprise hula and reigned as Kamehameha V from 1863 to 1872. Local food and refreshments will be available for purchase throughout the day. Limited edition tee shirts and souvenir kokua buttons will be on sale. Proceeds from these merchandise sales will help cover the costs of the festival. Annual `Ukulele Festival. In 1971, at a time when very few people were interested in the ukulele, Roy Sakuma organized the 1st Annual Ukulele Festival. It was Sakuma’s dream to present a free concert to show people that the ukulele could be played as a solo instrument of sophistication and virtuosity and not just a rhythm instrument for background music. Today, the annual `Ukulele Festival is now a summer tradition in Hawai`i. It has grown internationally and is by far the largest `ukulele festival of its kind in the world, with crowds of thousands, guest artists from around the world and an `ukulele orchestra of over 800 students, mostly children. Other festival offerings include free `ukulele lessons, `ukulele displays and giveaways by `ukulele manufacturers, food booths, and `Ukelele Festival souvenir t-shirts available for purchase.
