June 15, 2019:
Obon Dance & Festival – Ewa Hongwanji. Experience this island celebration of the Obon Festival, brought to Hawaii by Japanese immigrants that have evolved into a social and cultural event. The Obon honors ancestors that have passed on with dances and festivals across the island that are held throughout the summer. 7 to 10 p.m. June 15, 91-1133 Renton Road; service at 6 p.m.

June 15, 2019:
Constant As the Moon – Concert. Jazz ensemble Constant As the Moon blends the evocative sound of the erhu (two-stringed Chinese fiddle) with guitar, voice, accordion, piano, and bass. The result is a mix of Hawaiian, Chinese and Taiwanese music traditions along with American popular music, producing distinctive vocal and instrumental music delivered in a uniquely pan-Pacific style. Constant As the Moon’s music as beautiful as it is unexpected. This is their debut Atherton performance. This performance is part of HPR’s Atherton Summer Concert Series, which runs through September 7. June 15, 2019:
The Haleiwa Triathlon hosted by Runners HI is a “sprint” distance event held in the scenic North Shore Town of Haleiwa. This event has a 400-meter swim, 12-mile bike & a 3-mile beach & trail run. This is the first event of the triathlon season. Participate as an individual, a 3 person team or in our solo beach cruiser division. Kamehameha Hwy will feature one lane of road closure from 7:00 a.m. to 8:15 a.m.!

June 14, 2019:
Aloha Friday at VAC Gallery: Lei making with Randy Lee. Aloha Friday cultural demonstrations are held each week from 11 am – 1 pm on the porch of Volcano Art Center Gallery in Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park. This week’s offerings include: Lei making with Randy Lee.
Master lei maker, Randy Lee uses a variety of natural materials to fashion gorgeous lei from the freshest fern, leaves and flowers that he personally gathers from the rain forests of Pana‘ewa. Enjoy the skill and wonderful stories that this well-respected practitioner has to offer.

Tuesday, June 11th, from 9 AM – 4 PM:
Kamehameha Day Celebration Baldwin Home Museum will celebrate King Kamehameha’s birthday on June 11. Kamehameha Day is a state holiday honoring the memory of the great king, Kamehameha I, who united the Hawaiian Islands and became Hawai`i’s first king in 1810. The event will begin at 9 am with the presentation of ho’okupu to honor King Kamehameha I.
Beginning at 10 am, the public can participate in Hawaiian games on the museum grounds.  Attendees are encouraged to try their hand at ulu maika (similar to lawn bowling) or attempt to throw a wooden spear into the trunk of a banana tree. Konane boards will be available for those wanting to play the Hawaiian board game similar to checkers.  Attendees can also participate in hands on Hawaiian craft activities.
The day will end at 2 pm with live music by George Kahumoku, with concert seating set up in the shade of the trees on the Baldwin Home lawn.
The Baldwin Home Museum will offer free admission from 10 am to 4 pm.

Kokua Kailua Sunday. One Sunday each month from 1pm to 6pm Alii Drive in Kona’s Historic Kailua Village becomes a festive, pedestrian-only outdoor marketplace that makes for a fun family-friendly day. Leashed dogs are welcome to stroll too!
Celebrating its 10th year, over 100 Kokua Kailua vendors gather once a month on Alii Drive, from Kailua Pier to Hualalai Road, to showcase shop local opportunities, entertainment and delicious munchies. Local artisans and crafters, musicians and friendly merchants welcome the crowd. There is no better place to spend a Sunday afternoon than strolling through the seaside village.
