Children Of Eden
September 06, 2019 – September 29, 2019:
Children Of Eden. In the tradition and spirit of Ron Bright, the full-scale fall production by the I’m A Bright Kid Foundation (IABK) at Paliku Theatre in Kaneohe, will feature some of Hawaii’s leading community performers in a story of family, forgiveness and second chances.
Synopsis: Stephen Schwartz and John Caird’s musical, Children Of Eden casts the beloved biblical stories of Genesis through the personal lens of family. An epic musical, Children Of Eden starts with the very beginning: the creation of the universe. Father breathes life into his children, Adam and Eve, and learns that the hardest part of being a loving Father is letting go. It’s a lesson that translates into the parenting of Cain, Abel, and Seth — and is reiterated once again as Noah parents his sons Shem, Ham, and Japheth. This joyous and inspiring musical celebrates the difficulty of choice, the importance of passion, the value of questioning, and the pain in allowing those you love to take risks and face the consequences. In order to capture the expanse of humanity, this play is traditionally performed with a multi-ethnic cast. Performances:
The musical will open at Paliku Theatre on the campus of the Windward Community College in Kaneohe on September 6, 2019 and will run weekends until September 29, 2019. For tickets and further information on Children Of Eden and the IABK 2019 Season please visit the IABK website at http://www.imabrightkid.org

Artist Talk with Thad Higa and Minny Lee
September 05, 2019:
Artist Talk with Thad Higa and Minny Lee. The Donkey Mill is pleased to welcome Hawaii Book artists Thad Higa and Minny Lee to discuss their current work and the curation of our current exhibition, REGENERATE! Book Arts in Hawaii. The Donkey Mill Art Center is proud to present REGENERATE! Book Arts in Hawaii. This exhibition surveys contemporary artist books in the Hawaiian Islands. Curated by Oahu-based book artists Minny Lee and Thad Higa, REGENERATE! focuses on the book as a document of change. In an era of transience and portability, artists approach books as one of the most malleable and dynamic vehicles of art. There are books from printmakers, concrete poets, dancers, musicians, photographers, graphic designers, and any artist seeking to regenerate their own form in printed matter. Books of our time range from narrative to non-narrative, abstract to didactic, encyclopedic to poetic. REGENERATE! also includes a reading area where visitors can spend time with a selection of works from the show. In coordination with the exhibition, artists talks and workshops will be held at the Donkey Mill for anyone interested in learning how to share their art, ideas, and passions in book form. We hope you will join us. donkeymillartcenter.org
