This concert will ‘Tune your world to Aloha’! Award winning concert artists Doug & Sandy McMaster have 11 CDs to perpetuate the knowledge and experience of the endangered artform of traditional Hawaiian slack key guitar and ukulele. Guided by the kupuna (elders), they have dedicated their lives to continuing the family tradition of slack key music.
The Hanalei community center is easy to find. In Hanalei, a block past the shopping center, turn towards the mountains at Malolo Rd. A small Hanalei Community Center sign is on the edge of Waioli Park soccer fields. Go 20 yards, turn left into the gravel parking area. The concert is in the brown building – Pohai Aloha (Circle of Aloha).

Accessible and Family Friendly Facility: This facility is accessible to all ages and abilities and is family friendly with nice grassy area and lanai for parents to take restless children during the concert and intermission. Endangered birds such as the Hawaiian stilt, Hawaiian coot, Hawaiian duck, Kolea (golden plover), and nene (Hawaiian goose), Pueo (Hawaiian owl) make their homes here.

Chinese Heritage Festival
November 16, 2019:
Chinese Heritage Festival. “A Taste of China” entices festival visitors by sharing Chinese culture through food. The Food Booths offer a variety of taste treats and distinctive cultural dishes available for purchase. There will be a powerpoint presentation in the historic Cookhouse about food, along with an informative display and demo of Chinese herbs. Live Chinese music entertains the attendees, with hands on cultural activities available to engage the keiki (children), as well as adults. A lei ceremony will be conducted in the Museum lawn at 4:30 pm at the statue of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, to honor his legacy. Dr. Sun, who spent time on Maui visiting his brother, a resident of Kula, is remembered as a great leader of modern China.

Korean Cinderella. Honolulu Theatre for Youth’s A Korean Cinderella mixes modern K-pop with traditional Korean drumming, dance and costumes, and will return to Kahilu Theatre on Friday, November 15, 2019 at 7 pm. Written by Alvin Chan, A Korean Cinderella is a musical play that takes Korea’s traditional version of the classic Cinderella tale, “Konji and Patji,” and transforms it into a modern tale through a mixture of culturally specific theatre techniques and modern aesthetics popular in the host culture. “We’ve interwoven the colorful, flashy world of K-pop with traditional Korean costumes, musical instruments and dance. Rosy Simas Danse – WEAVE. Castle Theater, 7:30 p.m. Native American choreographer Rosy Simas (Seneca) breathes life into “Weave,” a dance project drawn from the interwoven and interdependent nature of our world. Like its namesake, “Weave” traces the vibrant threads of individual and embodied stories, uniting in an interdisciplinary performance woven of story, dance, moving image, and quadraphonic sound. Wahiawa Lion’s Club 73rd Annual Veterans Day Parade Lions club. This year’s theme is “Honoring Our Real Super Heroes.” The parade will commence at Kaala Elementary School at 10:00 a.m., with participants walking through and disbursing on North Cane Street. Ceremony will follow at the Wahiawa Town Center. The parade will end at the Wahiawa Town Center, where we will have a brief program and hear a message from our 25th Infantry Division leader. So don’t go to the park after the parade, and join us at the WAHIAWA TOWN CENTER to honor our veterans!
