New Year’s Eve Celebration @ Poipu Beach Park

New Year’s Eve Celebration @ Poipu Beach Park. Grab your lawn chairs and beach blankets and ring in the new year, Poipu style! Enjoy a family-themed movie at sunset on the large outdoor screen (titled to be determined) followed by a spectacular aerial display of fireworks at approximately 8:15pm, all in the gorgeous, ocean-side setting that Poipu Beach Park provides. You won’t be disappointed! The island’s most popular food trucks will be on hand to keep bellies happy by 5:00pm.
The Annual New Year’s Eve Celebration is FREE of charge and open to the public. Festivities will take place Tuesday, December 31st from 5:00-8:30pm on the grounds of Poipu Beach Park. The New Year’s Eve Celebration is a long-standing tradition in Poipu, hosted by the Poipu Beach Foundation in partnership with the Hawaii Tourism Authority and County of Kauai and made possible through the support and generosity of Kauai’s South Shore community.

For the ninth year in a row, Bill Maher will be ringing in the New Year in Hawaii! Making the celebration extra special this year, Bill will be joined by special guest comedians, Sarah Silverman and Larry Miller. After sold-out shows for the past eight years, Maher continues to make good on his promise to be the “Don Ho of New Year’s.” Adding to this New Year’s extravaganza are Sarah Silverman and Larry Miller. Silverman is a two-time Emmy Award winner and one of the most versatile talents in entertainment. She is perhaps best known as creator, executive producer, and host of the Emmy-nominated weekly topical talk series “I Love You, America,” which streamed on Hulu. The series earned nominations at the Emmy Awards and Writers Guild Awards. In May 2017, she released her latest standup special, “A Speck of Dust” on Netflix, which culminated in two Emmy Award nominations and a Grammy Award nomination. Actor, comedian, and author Larry Miller is one of Hollywood’s most recognizable faces. He has appeared in over 100 film and television shows, beginning his career with a memorable scene alongside Richard Gere and Julia Roberts in the blockbuster film, Pretty Woman. A small Hanalei Community Center sign is on the edge of Waioli Park soccer fields. Go 20 yards, turn left into the gravel parking area. The concert is in the brown building – Pohai Aloha (Circle of Aloha).

Accessible and Family Friendly Facility: This facility is accessible to all ages and abilities and is family friendly with nice grassy area and lanai for parents to take restless children during the concert and intermission. Wailea Village Mochi Pounding (22nd Annual)

Wailea Village Mochi Pounding (22nd Annual). Akiko’s over the years has become synonymous with MOCHI POUNDING. This will be our 22nd year. Started with 23 people, mostly neighbors, and now it has become a popular community and public event. This past year we had between 600-700 folks visit our wee village to participate in mochi pounding and other activities. Come and join the fun on Saturday, Dec. 28th, from 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. making traditional rice cakes the “old-fashioned” way. Everyone takes their turn at pounding the delicious sticky rice for good luck. Fire building starts at 7 a.m. to steam the rice. Hearty local style lunch for $5. New years crafts, food vendors, fortune telling, massage, I Ching readings, floral arrangements, plantation stories, Okinawan taiko drumming, Hawaiian entertainment & more. Rock/country/folk singer and songwriter Steve Earle began his career writing songs in Nashville, breaking to fame with the 1986 album, Guitar Town. He has released 15 other studio albums since then, received 3 Grammy awards, and his songs have been recorded by the likes of Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Vince Gill, and Emmylou Harris. Steve Earle has been many things during his illustrious career, equally acclaimed as a folk troubadour, a rockabilly raver, a contemplative bluesman, a honky-tonk rounder, a snarling rocker, and even a bluegrass practitioner.
