This concert will ‘Tune your world to Aloha’! Award winning concert artists Doug & Sandy McMaster have 11 CDs to perpetuate the knowledge and experience of the endangered artform of traditional Hawaiian slack key guitar and ukulele. Guided by the kupuna (elders), they have dedicated their lives to continuing the family tradition of slack key music.
The Hanalei community center is easy to find. In Hanalei, a block past the shopping center, turn towards the mountains at Malolo Rd. A small Hanalei Community Center sign is on the edge of Waioli Park soccer fields. Go 20 yards, turn left into the gravel parking area. The concert is in the brown building – Pohai Aloha (Circle of Aloha).

Accessible and Family Friendly Facility: This facility is accessible to all ages and abilities and is family friendly with nice grassy area and lanai for parents to take restless children during the concert and intermission. Endangered birds such as the Hawaiian stilt, Hawaiian coot, Hawaiian duck, Kolea (golden plover), and nene (Hawaiian goose), Pueo (Hawaiian owl) make their homes here.
NTBG Free Weekly Hula Show
December 12, 2019 – December 26, 2019:
NTBG Free Weekly Hula Show. Come out the National Tropical Botancial Garden South Shore Visitors Center and experience a traditional hula performance. Halau Ka Lei Mokihana o Leinaala will perform a traditional Hula show highlighting the wahi pane, sacred places, of Kauai along with intriguing stories of the Hawaiian people and their connections with the gardens. Dancers will be accompanied by live Hawaiian music. Plus while you are there take time to enjoy McBryde and Allerton Gardens with tours happening throughout the day.
Zappa 7: Hilo Jazz Orchestra 7th Annual Frank Zappa Tribute Concert
December 11, 2019:Zappa 7: Hilo Jazz Orchestra 7th Annual Frank Zappa Tribute Concert. The Hilo Jazz Orchestra has enjoyed worldwide recognition for their exciting performances of Frank Zappa’s music and they have been invited to Germany to perform next summer. In 2017 Frank Zappa’s son and Grammy award winning guitarist Dweezil Zappa came to Hilo to perform with the band, and they have earned the endorsement of Ahmet Zappa and the Zappa Family Trust. The Hilo Jazz Orchestra is the subject of the documentary film Zappa U which follows the band in the months leading up to their 2016 Frank Zappa tribute concert. This year’s show will feature Zappa songs never before played by the Jazz Orchestra as well as some old favorites. “We’ve got a really exciting set planned for this show” says Veilleux, “it’s a great mix of accessible songs and face-melting instrumentals that show off the band’s talents. And, this show isn’t only for Zappa fans, we often hear from audience members who were not familiar with Zappa that they love the show!”
Hilo Hula Tuesday at the Bandstand
December 10, 2019 – December 31, 2019:Hilo Hula Tuesday at the Bandstand. Every Tuesday our non-profit organization, Destination Hilo, presents a one-hour free performance featuring our talented local musicians and hula halau at the bandstand. In addition, a cultural practitioner teaches the art of lei-making. Conveniently located at the Bandstand across from the Hilo Farmers Market, this event provides a warm Hawaiian welcome to visitors. Always a lively performance, you may have the opportunity to learn a little hula or some Hawaiian words. Please join us on Tuesdays from 11 a.m. to noon.

Princeville Night Market. The Princeville Night Market brings together Kauai’s finest artisans for an evening of shopping, live music, and food trucks. You’ll find a diverse collection of more than 40 Kauai artisans, ranging from paintings and wood carvings to hot sauce and handmade soap all Made in Hawaii. Enjoy dinner or a sweet treat from the featured food trucks and dessert vendors, and round out the evening by soaking up the sounds of one of our 3 musicians. There are also several restaurant options for those who prefer a sit-down meal. This free and family friendly market is on the second Sunday of every month from 4-8pm at the Princeville Shopping Center.
