Makahiki Festival and Ke`alohi Hula Competition
Saturday, November 18:
Makahiki Festival and Ke`alohi Hula Competition. Originally established in 1981, this event was part of Waimea Valley’s annual Makahiki festivities until 1995. The competition was successfully revived in 2014 and has been held every year since then. The original spirit of this competition has been preserved, with women and men competing for a single hula kahiko (ancient hula) title. Competitors perform one kahiko hula, and between each of these, halau representing the entrants take the stage. There will also be live music, local vendors, cultural activities, traditional Hawaiian games, demonstrations, and more. Waimea Valley, 59-864 Kamehameha Hwy., Waimea.
