Featuring all four traditional races – Marathon, Half Marathon, Quarter Marathon & 5 K. An estimated 2,000 runners of all ages and abilities will be participating for prizes, health and enjoyment, and raising money for charities. The race will start and finish at the Waikoloa Bowl at Queens’ Marketplace. The Kona Marathon course has one gentle climb not exceeding 175 feet above sea level. Aloha Friday at VAC Gallery: Lei making with Kaipo Ah Chong. Aloha Friday cultural demonstrations are held each week from 11 am – 1 pm on the porch of Volcano Art Center Gallery in Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park. This month’s offerings include: Lei making with Kaipo Ah Chong.
Tropical Agriculture farmer Kaipo Ah Chong will share his expert lei-making skills with VAC visitors. As a member of Halau Na Kamalei, his unique experience marries the science of agriculture with Hawaiian lei and hula traditions.
These free cultural events are supported in part by a grant from the County of Hawai‘i, Dept. of Research and Development and the Hawai‘i Tourism Authority.

Master lei maker, Randy Lee uses a variety of natural materials to fashion gorgeous lei from the freshest fern, leaves and flowers that he personally gathers from the rain forests of Pana‘ewa. Enjoy the skill and wonderful stories that this well-respected practitioner has to offer.

Kamehameha Festival – Hilo

Kamehameha Festival – Hilo.  The festival will feature sweet Hawaiian music and beautiful hula from various artists and hula halau, from 10am-4pm. There will also be ono (delicious) food, arts & craft vendors. Presented by the Royal Order of Kamehameha, Mamalahoa, the festival is free, open to the public, and remains a drug, alcohol, and tobacco-free event. Kokua Kailua Sunday

Kokua Kailua Sunday. One Sunday each month from 1pm to 6pm Alii Drive in Kona’s Historic Kailua Village becomes a festive, pedestrian-only outdoor marketplace that makes for a fun family-friendly day. Leashed dogs are welcome to stroll too!
Celebrating its 10th year, over 100 Kokua Kailua vendors gather once a month on Alii Drive, from Kailua Pier to Hualalai Road, to showcase shop local opportunities, entertainment and delicious munchies. Local artisans and crafters, musicians and friendly merchants welcome the crowd. There is no better place to spend a Sunday afternoon than strolling through the seaside village. Shop, dine and buy local at Kokua Kailua.

KING KAMEHAMEHA CELEBRATION PARADE/HO’OLAULEA – KAILUA-KONA

KING KAMEHAMEHA CELEBRATION PARADE/HO’OLAULEA – KAILUA-KONA. Adorned in the flowers and colors of the Hawaiian Islands, regal pa’u riders on horseback will represent each of the eight islands, led by their respective princesses and the pa’u queen. The floral parade will also feature hula halau, equestrian units, marching bands, and more. The parade begins at Walua Road and Alii Drive at 9am, and travels through Kailua Village to Palani Road past the pier, ending at noon. After the parade, enjoy a free Hawaiian music concert and arts & crafts fair at Hulihe’e Palace. There will be food, hula and a silent auction, as well. Pablo Estigarribia and Adrian Jost present an evening of tango for piano and bandoneón. From classics to original compositions, their collaborations bring new life into the heart of tango – tradition layered with fresh harmonies and perspectives; stories of life, love, and loss articulated through the hands and minds of two great talents.
Pablo Estigarribia (Buenos Aires & New York), is a classically trained virtuoso Argentine tango pianist, arranger and composer, with a rich jazz influence. He won the prestigious Gardel Prize for the best recording of Tango by a new artist. He is widely recognized as one of the best tango musicians of his generation.
Adrian Jost (San Francisco & Switzerland) is the co-founder and bandoneonist of Trio Garufa, a San Francisco bay area ensemble dedicated to performing Argentine tango and folkloric music which has enthralled audiences in Argentina, Colombia, Canada, Europe and the US.
