Niaulani Nature Walk

Every Monday:
Niaulani Nature Walk.
  A free, guided rain forest tour in Volcano. This one-hour nature walk travels through a lush portion of an old-growth Hawaiian rain forest on an easy, 1/7-mile loop trail. The walk introduces visitors to the native plants and birds of Volcano. Guides focus on the biological, ecological, and geological features of the area, and the cultural usages of flora and fauna by native Hawaiians. Volcano Art Center’s Niaulani Campus, 19-4074 Old Volcano Rd., Volcano Village. 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Free; donations welcome. Ka`u Coffee Ho`olaule`a

Saturday, May 4: 
Ka`u Coffee Ho`olaule`a.
 A full day of live music, hula, local food & crafts, keiki activities, educational displays, guided coffee tastings and farm/mill tours headquartered inside and out of the Pahala Community Center, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. It’s a great place to “talk story” with Ka`u coffee growers. The Ka`u Coffee Experience offers Ka`u coffees prepared using a variety of methods by professional baristas from 9:30 a.m. to noon and 1 to 3:30 p.m. Farm tours with shuttle transport are 9:30 and 11 a.m., plus 12:30, 2 and 3:30 p.m., $20. 11th Annual Ka`u Coffee Festival

Friday – Sunday, April 26 – May 5: 
11th Annual Ka`u Coffee Festival.
  The festival celebrates its award-winning brew with a host of events showcasing the people and place that make the coffee so special. Come to Ka`u coffee country for ten days of visiting farms and roasters, coffee tasting, and enjoying local cuisine. Enjoy hiking in a rainforest to stargazing on a flat-topped mountain. Details subject to change.  Join Ka`u coffee farmers for the seventh annual Ho`olaule`a at Pahala Community Center with more coffee tasting, music, dance, arts, crafts and food. Learn about the industry during Ka`u Coffee College.   Some events are free, while others have a fee. The Emily T Gail Show, aka “Emily T Gail Talk Story” is about sports, recreation and community events where Emily is involved: Hawai`i Island and Detroit, her home town.  Sponsored by Aloha Big Island Visitor Guide, recent shows include interesting talk stories with John and Judy Collins, founders 40 years ago of the Ironman World Championship which was held in Kailua-Kona in October.  Emily will have interviews with players, fans, PGA officials, volunteers and others from the PGA TOUR Champions Mitsubishi Electric Championship at Hualalai that was at the Four Seasons Resort Hualalai in January for the 23rd year. Tom Lehman won by 1 shot over David Thoms.  The MEC and PGA have donated over a million dollars to the Rotary Club of Kona Community Foundation, Big Island Junior Golf, and Daniel R.
