Obon Dance & Festival. The Obon tradition was brought to Hawaii by Japanese immigrants and evolved into a social and cultural event, as well as a religious custom designed to honor ancestors through an evening of dance, music and merry-making.

Kona Marathon and Family Fun Runs
June 24 – June 30:
Kona Marathon and Family Fun Runs. Since its debut in 1994, this event has become Kona’s premier road race, featuring four great races for the whole family-marathon, half-marathon, and 5-K and 10-K runs. King Kamehameha Day Celebration (North Kohala). Celebrate Kamehameha Day this year at the birthplace of the King Kamehameha I. Early-morning ceremony and lei-draping 8-9 a.m. at King Kamehameha I original statue, followed by a floral parade 9-10 a.m. from the North Kohala Resource Center to the statue. Kokua Kailua Hulihe’e Palace Concert Series & Village Stroll. One Sunday each month from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Ali’i Drive along scenic Kailua Bay in Kailua-Kona becomes a festive pedestrian-only walkway. Enjoy music, artists, merchants and restaurants.
