Aloha Makahiki Concert. The concert begins with a Makahiki blessing in an ancient hula style with Halau from Kona and Tokyo. Traditional Hawaiian music and hula with renowned musicians Bobby Moderow, Jr. (leader of the multiple Na Hoku winning group, Maunalua), Aaron Mahi (former Band Master for the Royal Hawaiian Band), George Kuo (renowned slack key guitar master), and Stephen Akana (Ambassador of Aloha from Papakolea) . Asia Pacific Junior Club
Saturday – Tuesday, November 8-11: Asia Pacific Junior Club at Waikoloa Beach Resort Kings Course brings together the top junior golfers from Hawai`i and Japan in a Ryder Cup™ style tournament. Amateur golfers are invited to play in the Junior Am with these world junior golfers November 8. Anuhea. Born on the island of Maui, music has been in Anuhea’s family for generations. Her father is from the surfing culture of Haleiwa, on the North Shore of Oahu. His younger sister, Nalani, is part of the award winning contemporary Hawaiian music trio, Na Leo Pilimehana. Ironman Triathlon World Championship
Saturday, October 11:
Ironman Triathlon World Championship. The top 1,800 triathletes from around the world converge on Kona for this Super Bowl of triathlon events, featuring a 2.4-mile ocean swim off Kailua Pier, a 112-mile bike course to Hawi and a 26.2 mile run. The top triathletes swim at 6:30 a.m. The top finishers complete the event around 3:30 p.m.; the last official finisher is at midnight. Spectators may enjoy the race anywhere along the course (but note that roads around the area are closed), but being right downtown in Kailua Village is the best way to see the action.
