Led Kaapana’s mastery of stringed instruments, particularly slack key guitar, and his extraordinary baritone and leo kiekie (falsetto) voices, have made him a musical legend. He has been thrilling audiences for more than 40 years. With easy-going style and kolohe (rascal) charm, he has built a loyal corps of Led Heads from Brussels to his birthplace on the Big Island of Hawaii. Words and Wine Author Event. Words and Wine Author evening happens August 6, 2019 at 6PM at Kona Stories book store in the Keauhou Shopping Center. The public is welcome to attend this free author event and enjoy their stories and complimentary wine and pupu. Authors will speak for 20 minutes about their book followed by Q&A. August’s featured authors are: Amy Patterson, Angela Leslee and Donna Beumler. This event starts at 6 PM with an informal meet and greet merging into a more formal book presentation from each author and concluding around 8 PM after a Q&A session. Dress is casual aloha wear. Tropical Inspirations Quilt Show (4th Annual).
Please join us for the 4th annual Tropical Inspirations Quilt Show on Saturday and Sunday, July 20 and 21, 2019. The quilt show will be held in the lobby of King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel (Courtyard by Marriott) in downtown Kailua Kona, and will feature a display of over 100 Hawaiian and island-themed quilts. Local quilt designers Roberta Muller and Viv Smith will be on hand to talk story about their designs and demonstrate quilting techniques. The Tropical Inspirations Quilt Show will also feature local craft vendors and a Keiki Corner for our young guests. Third Friday of each month: Aloha Friday Hula & Oli with Kahookele Crabbe Aloha Friday cultural demonstrations are held each week from 11 am – 1 pm on the porch of Volcano Art Center Gallery in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. This week’s offerings include: hula and oli with Kahookele Crabbe. Kumu hula of Halau Ke Ola o Ka Lani, Moses Kahookele Crabbe shares his extensive knowledge to teach the basics of hula, language and chant.
