20th Annual Hula Hoike and Luau

Saturday, February 2: 
20th Annual Hula Hoike and Luau.  Leilani Rivera Low and Halau Hula o Leilani presents students age 4 and up from Kapa`a, Koloa and Reno, Nevada, in an exciting, colorful show of hula, Tahitian, and Maori dances and music. Featured guests are the Makaha Sons. Plus Mama`Ane Kanahele and ohana from Ni`ihau, Valetta Jeremiah, Maori expert and teacher, Michael Keale, Uncle Larry Rivera and Kapala. Kaua`i Memorial Convention Hall, Lihue.  Lobby opens at 5 p.m. with Hawaiian crafts and products and luau meal (additional cost). Show starts at 7 p.m. in auditorium. Kaua`i Concert Association Presents:  El Mundo.  El Mundo is a chamber group dedicated to the performance of sixteenth through nineteenth century Latin American, Spanish and Italian chamber music. “Thirty Years of Ekk – One Long Hawaiian Kine Pardee”

January thru March:
“Thirty Years of Ekk – One Long Hawaiian Kine Pardee”.  E Kanikapila Kakou (EKK) is the Hawaiian phrase meaning “everyone jam” or backyard musician concerts.  This is a three month long celebration of music at the Kaua`i Beach Resort, Nukoli`i between the airport and the Wailua Golf Course. 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.  Concert schedule for January is: Monday, January 21 – Keale, LT Smooth, Donald Kaulia (Let the Celebration Begin!); Friday, January 25 – Keali`i Reichel (concert), show time 7:00 p.m. ($25 general admission); Monday, January 28 – Aunty Bev Muraoka and Her Gang (The Queen of Chalangalang at Kaua`i Pardee Central).  For information call (808) 245-2733 or visit www.gardenislandarts.org.

A Culinary Romp through Paradise.  Local food experts offer an authentic taste of Kaua‘i by guiding you on a farm to fork culinary experience. The monthly event begins with a leisurely tour of a 26-acre exotic fruit farm where you’ll sample a variety of seasonal fruit and learn about exotic produce. Meet the executive chef of the Kaua`i Marriott Resort and enjoy a cooking demonstration and gourmet, four-course lunch made with Kaua`i-grown ingredients. The tour ends with a presentation of locally made rum at The Feral Pig. Koloa Rum Company is the first and only licensed distillery on the island of Kaua`i. After rum presentation, The Feral Pig Company owner and acclaimed bartender Dave Power will demonstrate how to make two island flavored cocktails using Koloa Rum, which participants get to drink!
