Kauai Old Time Gathering
November 22, 2019 – November 24, 2019:
Kauai Old Time Gathering. The Kauai Old Time Gathering is a celebration of late 19c to early 20c traditional music from North America and the Hawaiian Islands. Attendees can enjoy acoustic performances from award-winning Old Time musicians (including Cajun and Bluegrass) as well as attend workshops on Old Timey instruments and skills all day long. Impromptu jams in the many beautiful spaces around Kokee Lodge and CCC Camp are encouraged!
WThe Gathering is a truly unique opportunity to learn about this era, the music, and its traditions. Attendees can learn a variety of Old Time skills, including local grass basket weaving, planting endemic trees, blacksmithing, fiddle, banjo, steel guitar, guitar, ukulele, leo kiekie, clogging, square dancing, dances from the 1920s, and the history of Hawaiian music from the era. Dances will be held in the evenings, featuring kachi-kachi and square dance callers.

This concert will ‘Tune your world to Aloha’! Award winning concert artists Doug & Sandy McMaster have 11 CDs to perpetuate the knowledge and experience of the endangered artform of traditional Hawaiian slack key guitar and ukulele. Guided by the kupuna (elders), they have dedicated their lives to continuing the family tradition of slack key music.
The Hanalei community center is easy to find. In Hanalei, a block past the shopping center, turn towards the mountains at Malolo Rd. A small Hanalei Community Center sign is on the edge of Waioli Park soccer fields. Go 20 yards, turn left into the gravel parking area. The concert is in the brown building – Pohai Aloha (Circle of Aloha).

Accessible and Family Friendly Facility: This facility is accessible to all ages and abilities and is family friendly with nice grassy area and lanai for parents to take restless children during the concert and intermission. Endangered birds such as the Hawaiian stilt, Hawaiian coot, Hawaiian duck, Kolea (golden plover), and nene (Hawaiian goose), Pueo (Hawaiian owl) make their homes here.

Kalakea Anahola Farmers Market

Kalakea Anahola Farmers Market. Open from 10am-2pm on Sundays, with locally farmed produce, meats, fish, and other foods; as well as crafts and gifts made by Kauai artisans, and live Tahitian drumming performances throughout the day. Free Parking and Keiki Friendly Our market has a rotating collection of farmers, food vendors, crafters, makers, and artists every week in addition to our regular vendors. Every market offers a whole new experience and wondrous finds. Come visit us every Sunday to shop local, support Kauai’s farmers and artisans, and to see what’s new at the market.
Directions: Coming from the South (headed North) As you pass through Anahola, Whaler’s General Store will be on your right and Kalalea Juice Hale will be on your left. Keep going north, passing Aliomanu Rd on your right and your next left will be Hokualele Rd, turn left onto Hokualele Rd and the market will be on your left as you turn in. Coming from the North (headed South)Heading South from Kilauea, you will pass Moloa’a Sunrise Fruit Stand on your left. This is about 2.3 miles away from the market.
Old Koloa Sugar Mill Run

Old Koloa Sugar Mill Run. The Rotary Club of Kauai is pleased to announce the 17th annual Old Koloa Sugar Mill Run set for Saturday, November 9, 2019 at Anne Knudsen Park, Junction Maluhia Rd (RT520) & Emi Rd, Koloa. This is Kauai’s premier 5-Km, 10-Km, Half Marathon Runs, and non-competitive 5-K Walk. The Half Marathon will start at 7:00 A.M.; the 5-K run and walk will start at 7:15 A.M., and, the 10-K run will start at 7:30 A.M. The run will include a breakfast and microfiber T-shirt. Breakfast will be served as the first finishers arrive at about 8:00 A.M. The winners will be announced at about 9:30. Awards will go to overall male and female finishers and medals to age group winners. NTBG Free Weekly Hula Show

NTBG Free Weekly Hula Show. Come out the National Tropical Botancial Garden South Shore Visitors Center and experience a traditional hula performance. Halau Ka Lei Mokihana o Leinaala will perform a traditional Hula show highlighting the wahi pane, sacred places, of Kauai along with intriguing stories of the Hawaiian people and their connections with the gardens. Dancers will be accompanied by live Hawaiian music. Plus while you are there take time to enjoy McBryde and Allerton Gardens with tours happening throughout the day.

Princeville Night Market brings together Kauai’s finest artisans for an evening of shopping, live music, and food trucks. You’ll find a diverse collection of more than 40 Kauai artisans, ranging from paintings and wood carvings to hot sauce and handmade soap all Made in Hawaii. Enjoy dinner or a sweet treat from the featured food trucks and dessert vendors, and round out the evening by soaking up the sounds of one of our 3 musicians. There are also several restaurant options for those who prefer a sit-down meal. This free and family friendly market is on the second Sunday of every month from 4-8pm at the Princeville Shopping Center.
