Historic Waimea Walking Tour. Take a 2 1/2 hour walk back through time in the place where Captain Cook first landed in Waimea. Learn about the last King of Kaua`i, the missionaries, and other famous citizens of Waimea and the landmarks they left behind. January 3 – Hawai`i’s Sunset Music; January 10 – Poina `Ole – Never to be Forgotten; January 17 – Kaua`i Slack Key Guitar & Ukulele; January 24 – Hawai`i’s Cowboy Music; January 31 – Circle of Life. Ha`aheo `O Hawai`i Exhibit

Ha`aheo `O Hawai`i Exhibit. Cleopatra’s Barge was an opulent yacht built in Massachusetts in 1816. It became The Royal Yacht of King Kamahameha II who named it Ha`aheo `O Hawai`i (Pride of Hawai`i), but was wrecked in 1824. It cost about $50,000 to build, and about the same amount for luxury furnishing. The main cabin was 19′ x 20′ with mahogany panels inlaid with other decorative wood. Furniture was covered in red velvet with gold lace, and the kitchen included custom silver, china and formal glassware. The starboard side was painted in colorful horizontal stripes and the port side a herring-bone pattern. It even boasted indoor plumbing. Kaua`i Museum, 4428 Rice St., Lihue.
