This powerful documentary celebrates Hōkūleʻa’s historic Mālama Honua worldwide voyage that connected countless individuals and communities from around the globe. It was a voyage that also represented the fulfillment of the vision of Nainoa Thompson and his contemporaries—the passing of the mantle to the next generation of kānaka maoli who will retain the skills of their ancestors and perpetuate this tradition for generations to come. Rated PG/153 min. Screenings will be followed by a Q&A with members of Hōkūleʻa crew.

This is a community wide event with a focus on agriculture, with overall proceeds going to the Kauai County Farm Bureau, and program proceeds going to 4-H and other agricultural commodity and hobbyist groups growing everything from tropical flowers, to orchids, taro and bonsai. At the Kuhio Beach Hula Mound, diagonally across Kalakaua Ave. from Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach hotel at Uluniu Ave. FREE, outdoors, casual, seating on the grass; beach chairs, mats, etc. allowed. Cameras welcome. Attended by kamaaina (local residents) and malihini (visitors) alike. Na Pali Challenge

Na Pali Challenge. Each year paddlers from the Hawaiian Islands and abroad gather on Kaua’i for this unique race. It is an opportunity for wahine and kane to come together and race down the enchanting Na Pali Coast. Each team consists of 6 wahine and 6 kane. The two teams take turns in the canoe, making water changes every 30 minutes. The race begins at Hanalei Bay and will end outside Kikiaola Small Boat Harbor. The Hanalei community center is easy to find. In Hanalei, a block past the shopping center, turn towards the mountains at Malolo Rd. A small Hanalei Community Center sign is on the edge of Waioli Park soccer fields. Go 20 yards, turn left into the gravel parking area. The concert is in the brown building – Pohai Aloha (Circle of Aloha).
