Heiva I Kauai 2019

August 03, 2019 – August 04, 2019:
Heiva I Kauai 2019. This is a 2 day dance, drumming and music competition and exhibition which showcases Tahitian and Polynesian cultures. Competitors enter solo and group dance categories and win prizes for excellence. Vendors sell crafts, gifts and food. Cultural practices of lauhala and coconut weaving, Polynesian carving and fireknife dancing, shell craft, and lomilomi massage are demonstrated. The event provides a venue for the next generation of Polynesian entertainers to gain performance experience. The event helps preserve and perpetuate Tahitian language, history, ledgends, music drumming and dancing. Audience participation is encouraged in coconut husking and Tahitian dace contests.

The Princeville community center is easy to find at 4334 Emmalani Drive in Princeville, Kauai.  Turning into Princeville community, take the roundabout around and turn right on Emmalani Drive.  The center is the first on your right and is located  right next to Prince Albert Park.  The concert is held in the Aloha Room.

Accessible and Family Friendly Facility: This facility is accessible to all ages and abilities and is family friendly with nice grassy area, playground, and park for parents to take restless children during the concert and intermission. Enjoy dinner or a sweet treat from the featured food trucks and dessert vendors, and round out the evening by soaking up the sounds of one of our 3 musicians. There are also several restaurant options for those who prefer a sit-down meal. This free and family friendly market is on the second Sunday of every month from 4-8pm at the Princeville Shopping Center.
