Goin Left & Kohola Brewery are excited to share with you the inaugural Craft+Canvas, benefiting Hawaii Wildlife Fund on Labor Day Wednesday. Sip and peruse the new collection from our featured artist, Stephanie Meyer. She’ll be introducing her original artwork which integrates sustainable materials – like micro plastics and recycled plastic – to explore the delicate balance between the land and the ocean. We’ll also be learning about the conservation projects Hawaii Wildlife Fund is spearheading / from the Hawksbill Sea Turtle Recovery Project to Maui Marine Debris Removal Project / with their Executive Director, Hannah Bernard.

Kauluhiwaolele Maui Fiber Arts Conference

Kauluhiwaolele Maui Fiber Arts Conference.Kaanapali Beach Hotel is proud to host Kauluhiwaolele, its second annual Maui Fiber Arts Conference, from September 4-7, 2019. Led by master weaver Pohaku Kahoohanohano from Kahakuloa, Maui and Gayle Miyaguchi, Kaanapali Beach Hotel’s Cultural Resource Specialist, the conference draws master weavers from all over Hawaii to share their expertise during the four-day event. Participants will be immersed in weaving, developing and honing skills and techniques in this ancient Hawaiian art. New and expanded options for weaving classes will include pu hala (hala leaves), ieie (woody vine woven into baskets), koko (knotting sennit to create nets) and upena (fish net). Although classes are for registrants only, the public is welcome to attend the Kauluhiwaolele Festival on Friday and Saturday. Weaving workshops will be held in the lobby for any skill level, in addition to a craft fair. Daily presentations by knowledgeable kumu will cover related fiber arts topics. On Saturday, a silent auction will be held with one-of-a-kind, handmade items, as well as the Celebration of Kauluhiwaolele Fiber Arts with a dinner of local favorites and live Hawaiian music. The deadline for registration is July 31, 2019; late registration after this date will be at an increased rate and subject to availability. Artist 2 Artist: Henry Kapono & Sean Na’auao. In this concert series, two artists talk-story, play music, and have fun! Each concert will feature Henry Kapono and a different guest artist in an intimate format that offers the audience a rare opportunity to get up-close and personal.
The artists will share music and stories from their careers and answer questions, giving the audience an up-close-and-personal seat at the jam session. This concert features Sean Na’auao
Henry Kapono is a performer who has it all – vocalist, guitarist, songwriter, composer, thrilling performer, audience favorite—and multiple honors and awards, including a Grammy nomination. He has taken home numerous Nā Hōkū Hanohano Awards, including Male Vocalist of the Year, Song of the Year, Single of the Year, and Album & Rock Album of the Year.
Sean Naauao is a slack key guitarist, vocalist, composer, producer, and founder of independent record label, Poi Pounder. He has received multiple Na Hoku Hanohano Awards, including Island Contemporary Album of the Year for his popular, “Fish and Poi.”  Sean was a founding member of Mana’o Company, a group that made a huge mark on the Hawaiian music scene in the ‘80s and ‘90s. His repertoire runs from the most contemporary of island music to heartfelt traditional Hawaiian mele.
