King Kamehameha Celebration

Saturday, June 16:
King Kamehameha Celebration – Maui. The festivities will take place at 9 a.m. at Kamehameha Iki Park, 505 Front Street, Lahaina. The parade will begin at 9:45 a.m. from Kenui St. down Front St. to Shaw St. Following the parade is a ho’okupu ceremony at Moku’ula Ahu. The ho’olaulea will include exhibits and tours by Friends of Moku’ula, Hui O Waa Kaulua, Makahiki Games with Kula Kaiapuna ma Nahienaena, a pau awards presentation, food booths, Maui made crafters and entertainment. Kamehameha Day Celebration (Hana). This first annual festival honoring Hawaii’s legendary king takes place in beautiful Hana. Food vendors and crafts will be available, while halau and other local bands play throughout the day. John Cruz, George Kahumoku, Brother Noland and LT Smooth are scheduled to perform. The event benefits Ohana Makamae, the family resource center for the East Maui community. Hana is truly a step back in time and worth the long, meandering drive out there. 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Hana Bay, Uakea Rd., off Hana Hwy, Hana. Free.
