The original members of UB40, Ali Campbell, Astro, and Mickey Virtue, enjoyed huge success from 1979 until 2008, including multiple #1, top-10, gold- and platinum-selling albums; Grammy nominations; and four #1 hits worldwide. Ali, Mickey, and Astro helped define reggae music for a generation. The multiracial band pooled a diverse set of influences to put a fresh, indigenous slant on Jamaican reggae. Their most recent album is A Real Labour of Love, released in March 2018, an album much in the vein of their Labour of Love series of albums. Whale Tales is Hawai`i’s premier whale research and education event, hosted by Whale Trust. Renowned scientists, photographers, filmmakers, and conservationists will come together for presentations, whale watches, films, and an education/art expo.   A $20.00 per day donation is encouraged to support Whale Tales’ beneficiaries. Benefit whale watches with the scientists, conservationists, and photographers featured at Whale Tales will run throughout the weekend. Award-winning slack-key guitar player, singer, and composer, Makana, in a special Valentine’s Day concert.   A protégé of the Hawaiian slack key guitar legends, including Bobby Moderow Jr. and the late master Uncle Sonny Chillingworth, Makana has dedicated his life to perpetuating as well as evolving the traditional Hawaiian art form. From this slack key tradition Makana has evolved his own dynamic, high-octane style, coined “Slack Rock”: slack key infused with elements of bluegrass, rock, blues and raga. Described as “dazzling” by The New York Times, Makana has become an internationally acclaimed guitarist, singer, composer and activist who is widely known for lending his musical talent for social change. Makawao Town’s 27th Annual Chinese New Year’s Lion Dance Celebration.
  Makawao merchants invite you to come and join in this celebration. Au’s Shaolin Arts will offer the Lion Dance with a Martial Arts Demonstration and plenty of firecrackers to open the New Year. The corner of Baldwin and Makawao Avenues. 10 a.m. to noon After the demonstration the lion will dance through the streets of Makawao.

Ukulele Picnic in Hawai`i. 
A festival-like music event featuring iconic ukulele musicians from across Hawai`i and the world. The medley of events kicks off on Saturday, with the International Ukulele Contest and Hula Show. The finale takes place on Sunday, with an eclectic collection of more than 20 local and international entertainers all day long on two stages. The event will feature Ennichi (Japanese fair) games and activities like water balloon fishing, a ring toss and scooping games.  Saturday: International Market Place Queen’s Court Stage, 2330 Kalakaua Ave., Honolulu, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Sunday: Kaka`ako Makai Gateway Park, 461 Cooke St., Honolulu, 9 a.m. to sunset.
