Festivals of Aloha Parade & Celebration – Hāna. 2018 Festivals of Aloha fittingly culminate with an action-packed agenda in heavenly Hāna with lots of hula and Hawaiian music, all happening at one of the most authentic unspoiled locations in the world. Hāna town comes together through week-long festivities. Beginning the celebration with a parade through Hāna town, local culture and tradition will proudly be on display throughout. To kick off the 2018 Festivals of Aloha festivities, the Hana’s Royal Court will open the parade. Grand Marshall, Pa`u Riders, Floral Floats, Vintage Cars, Custom Motorcycles, Marching Band, the presentation of the coveted 2018 “Tiny Malaikini Public Service Award”, entertainment, Hawaiian crafts and many varieties of local dishes will be feature throughout the event. The evening will also include Poke Contest and Ulu-Uala-Kalo Contest, showing off their `ono dishes, Youth Talent Contest with hidden Moloka`i talents and Special off-island entertainment. 96th Annual Maui County Fair and Parade. Maui’s largest event, this year appropriately themed, “Celebrating the Good Ol’ Days”, will return for its 96th year providing something for everyone with fun, ono multi-cultural food, exhibits, entertainment, contests, top-notched entertainment, and quality time with family and friends. The Fair will open with the traditional parade (Maui’s largest) Thursday, October 4, and will continue with rides, food, first-rate entertainment and more through the evening of Sunday, October 7. Maui Humane Society’s Beach Buddies Visitor Program. Do you miss having a dog to spend your day with? Visitors and residents can sign up to take a homeless dog out for the day from the Maui Humane Society animal shelter. The shelter is easy to find as it is conveniently located in Pu`unene (central Maui) on Mokulele Hwy., between Kihei/Wailea and Kahului. Program participants will pick “their dog” up at 10 a.m. and bring them back no later than 3 p.m. MHS provides all of the supplies, you just provide the fun! Maui Ukulele Festival. Enjoy a relaxed afternoon on the lawn as acclaimed ukulele musicians fill the air with island music. Renowned ukulele advocate and teacher, Roy Sakuma, will serve as emcees to help celebrate Hawai`i’s beloved instrument. This year’s lineup will be announced at a later date. Fine ukulele will be featured as door prizes, and the festival also features displays of made-in-Hawai`i arts and crafts and ono-licious island foods available for purchase.
