Bring a low-back beach chair and/or a blanket and spread out on the lawn for a special screening of the animated classic, “WALL-E!”  Come early and enjoy preshow entertainment with DJ HANDS and an art activity for the kids prior to the film.  You can also purchase food and drinks from local food trucks and enter a prize giveaway. A fun family event.  If it’s rainy, the movie will be shown in the Castle Theater; seating is first come/first served.   The festival features Japanese and Okinawan entertainment, free children’s crafts, food booths, craft booths, kids games, exhibits, cosplay exhibition, martial arts demos, saimin & natto eating contests, manga & art drawing contests, and ends with a community Bon Dance which honors ancestors.   Step back in time and visit the Baldwin Home Museum with a tour by candle light. Tours include free light refreshments on the lanai. 18th Annual Maui Matsuri Musical Extravaganza

18th Annual Maui Matsuri Musical Extravaganza.
  The free Musical Extravaganza event is Maui County’s 150th Gannenmono Celebration, honoring the past 150 years of the first Japanese immigrants to come to Hawai`i. The evening honors the multi-cultural plantation heritage that brought the Japanese to Hawai`i. Entertainment from the Hawaiian, Korean, Portuguese, Chinese, and Japanese cultures will be shared. The evening ends with the audience participating in a community Bon Dance which honors ancestors. The Kaiwo Maru, a Japanese training ship, is in port at the Kahului Harbor from May 2nd to May 5th, and crew members will be joining in on this night’s festivities.  UH Maui Great Lawn, 310 W. Maui Humane Society’s Beach Buddies Visitor Program

Maui Humane Society’s Beach Buddies Visitor Program.
Do you miss having a dog to spend your day with? Visitors and residents can sign up to take a homeless dog out for the day from the Maui Humane Society animal shelter. The shelter is easy to find as it is conveniently located in Pu`unene (central Maui) on Mokulele Hwy., between Kihei/Wailea and Kahului. Program participants will pick “their dog” up at 10 a.m. and bring them back no later than 3 p.m. MHS provides all of the supplies, you just provide the fun! Lei Day Heritage Festival

Lei Day Heritage Festival.
  Activities will include a variety of Hawaiian cultural arts and craft workshops, including, kaula (Hawaiian rope weaving), lei-making, and poi pounding as well as live Hawaiian music and local Maui entertainment. There will also be a special presentation by Tom Fairbanks of The Old Wailuku Inn at Ulupono on Don Blanding, The Artistic Poet and Father of May Day. This is a free event.   Kumu Hula Robert Uluwehi Cazimero will perform in this perennially popular Lei Day event, along with the musicians and dancers from his award-winning Hālau Nā Kamalei – big winners at the 2015 Merrie Monarch Festival.  Enjoy the smooth showmanship, talent, and graciousness of Robert Cazimero, along with contemporary Hawaiian music and hula.  Preshow festivities start at 5:30 pm in the Yokouchi Pavilion and will include music and hula. Island crafters with displays of local arts & crafts and fragrant lei will also be on hand for purchase.
