Kris Kristofferson. Kris Kristofferson has been making things happen his entire life. Born in Texas and raised in a military family, he was a Golden Gloves boxer who studied creative writing at Pomona College in California. Performing for over 30 years and heralded as an artist’s artist, the three-time Grammy winner has recorded 28 albums, including three with pals Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, and Waylon Jennings as part of the Highwaymen. Parade of Whales & World Whale Day

Parade of Whales & World Whale Day. The Parade of Whales is the official kick-off to World Whale Day. The parade features participants of all ages and includes floats, marching bands, costumed characters, decorated vehicles and fun performances. The parade starts at 9 a.m. on S. Kihei Road near the Kamaole I Beach parking lot. It follows a one-mile route north, ending at the entrance to the World Whale Day festival at Kalama Park. Following the parade will be a celebration at Kalama Park, including live music, Keiki Carnival including a magic show, `ono local foods, Made on Maui Fair, online auction, Eco Alley and much more. Fee for entry into the festival is $5, keiki 12 and under free. Food and activities within the park require scrip which will be available for purchase at various locations at the park. Maui Open Studios Event. Open Studios are free self-guided tours of artist studios and exhibition spaces. Enjoy one-on-one interactions with the local artists and artisans and have the opportunity to learn about what inspires the artists, talk story and purchase art directly from the artists. Venues can range from art studios, gallery settings, home studios, outdoor venues and other alternative exhibition spaces. Run & Walk for the Whales

Run & Walk for the Whales. One of Maui’s largest sporting events, Run & Walk for the Whales starts and ends at the Ma`alaea Harbor Shops. Participants can choose between the Half Marathon, 10K run, 5K run, 4K walk, or a 1K run for keiki ages 12 and under. Post-race festivities include continental breakfast and awards ceremony for participants, along with door prizes and live entertainment by Marty Dread. Participants are invited to take a post-race whale watch at 40% off departing from Ma`alaea Harbor. A morning version of Ocean Camp on race day will be available for children ages 4 to 12. Chinese New Year Celebration. Ring in the Year of the Rooster on world-famous Front Street! Lahaina celebrates the Lunar New Year with a traditional lion dance, firecrackers and Shaolin martial arts demonstration in the Wo Hing Museum yard on Front Street at 5 p.m. Then, an exciting lion dancing will proceed along Front Street, visiting merchants. Wo Hing Museum will host a free day-long celebration from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. with kids’ crafts, cultural demos, traditional music and presentations on the history of Chinese New Year.
