Ki Hoalu Guitar Festival. A showcase of Hawai`i’s great slack key guitar musicians, presented in a laid-back, local-style outdoor festival. Bring your own beach chair, blanket or lauhala mat to stretch out on the lawn and enjoy an afternoon of music from mid-day till dusk. St. Anthony High School’s Annual Ho`olaule`a. This Hawaiian celebration at St. Anthony is a long tradition of gathering both alumni and the Maui community for a night of ono kaukau and local entertainment. Now in its 27th year, the 2016 Ho`olaule`a will feature Maui’s own Ekolu, Malino, Matagi and Napili. St. Anthony Junior-Senior High School, Sullivan Field, 1618 Lower Main St., Wailuku. Na Kamehameha Commemorative Pa`u Parade & Ho`olaule`a. Visitors and Kama`aina gather to commemorate and celebrate Hawai`i’s ali‘i. Parade begins at 9:45 a.m. along Front St., from Kenui St. to Shaw Street. Commentary Stations are at Longhi’s, Kimo’s, Lahaina Pizza Co., Cheeseburger in Paradise and Wharf Cinema Center. Obon Dance & Festival. The Obon tradition was brought to Hawai`i by Japanese immigrants and evolved into a social and cultural event, as well as a religious custom designed to honor ancestors through an evening of dance, music and merry-making. Helping Paws Visitor Volunteer Program

Helping Paws Visitor Volunteer Program. Do you miss your pet when traveling? Visitors can offer a “helping paw” to homeless animals at the Maui Humane Society shelter, located in Pu`unene (central Maui), on Mokulele Hwy. between Kihei and Kahului. 1 to 3 p.m. Help with such activities as walking dogs, bathing puppies, brushing cats, or playing with puppies and kittens. Arrive by 1 p.m. and wear close-toed shoes and comfortable clothing that you don’t mind getting dirty. For Maui visitors only. Children age 10 to 17 are welcome when accompanied by a supervising adult for the duration. Advance reservations required.
