Helping Paws Visitor Volunteer Program

Every Wednesday and Thursday: 
Helping Paws Visitor Volunteer Program.  Do you miss your pet when traveling? Visitors can offer a “helping paw” to homeless animals at the Maui Humane Society shelter, located in Pu`unene (central Maui), on Mokulele Hwy. between Kihei and Kahului. 1 to 3 p.m. Help with such activities as walking dogs, bathing puppies, brushing cats, or playing with puppies and kittens. Arrive by 1 p.m. and wear close-toed shoes and comfortable clothing that you don’t mind getting dirty. For Maui visitors only.  Children age 10 to 17 are welcome when accompanied by a supervising adult for the duration. Prince Kuhio Day Celebration

Prince Kuhio Day Celebration.  Enjoy daylong entertainment, foods and crafts at this free community event to honor Prince Jonah Kuhio Kalaniana`ole. As territorial congressional delegate, he spearheaded the 1920 federal Hawaiian Homes Commission Act. Moku`ula by Moonlight in Lahaina.  As the full moon rises over Mauna Kahalawai in West Maui, the Moku`ula/Mokuhinia restoration site in Lahaina is in the spotlight, featuring a free cultural and educational program that’s open to the public.  Hawaiian music and storytelling mix when popular musicians share the stage with local elders who tell their stories about Lahaina. Guest speakers talk about Native Hawaiian issues.  Logo hats, tote bags and pareos will be for sale. Experience the Hawaiian style of learning as you “Watch. Listen. Play.
