Mahina`ai Night. Join a torch lit guided tour of a walking trail while learning about Kaho`olawe. Then, gather in the KIRC’s Kalamalama traditional hale, where historical artifacts from Kaho`olawe will be on display, and enjoy live entertainment provided by University of Hawai`i Maui College’s Institute of Hawaiian Music. Non-alcoholic beverages and appetizers will be available for purchase. Annual Makawao Paniolo Parade

Annual Makawao Paniolo Parade. Enjoy this colorful Hawaiian style small town Wild West parade in Makawao, along Makawao and Baldwin Avenues. 8:45 a.m: Stick Horse Race (everyone is welcome to participate). 9 to 11 a.m: Parade. There will be no parking in town. The Obon tradition was brought to Hawai`i by Japanese immigrants and evolved into a social and cultural event, as well as a religious custom designed to honor ancestors through an evening of dance, music and merry-making.
