Chinese Kite Festival in Lahaina & Ka`anapali. Celebrate the colorful world of kites during a traditional Chinese Kite Festival at the Wo Hing Museum, 858 Front St., Lahaina, on Friday from 1 to 8 p.m. Enjoy an exhibit of handmade kites. Make your own kite or purchase one of the many kites for sale. There will be Chinese music and entertainment as well as Chinese delicacies to purchase. On Saturday, go fly a kite! This family event takes place at the Keka`a North Beach Open Space near the Old Airport Beach in Ka`anapali from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Watch aerial displays of acrobatic sport kites from Hawai`i Kiteflyers Association. Helping Paws Visitor Volunteer Program

Helping Paws Visitor Volunteer Program. Do you miss your pet when traveling? Visitors can offer a “helping paw” to homeless animals at the Maui Humane Society shelter, located in Pu`unene (central Maui), on Mokulele Hwy. between Kihei and Kahului. 1 to 3 p.m. Help with such activities as walking dogs, bathing puppies, brushing cats, or playing with puppies and kittens. Arrive by 1 p.m. and wear close-toed shoes and comfortable clothing that you don’t mind getting dirty. For Maui visitors only. Children age 10 to 17 are welcome when accompanied by a supervising adult for the duration. Advance reservations required.
