Sun Yat Sen Festival

Sun Yat Sen Festival. Wo Hing Museum honors Dr. Sun Yat-Sen, known as The Father of Modern China, who led the early 20th century revolution and became president. Watch a lei ceremony at the Sun Yat-sen statue, martial arts demonstrations, and see displays on the life and teachings of Sun Yat-sen from Maui to China. Enjoy a presentation on the significance of his work and connection to Maui. Festival is 1 to 8 p.m. Wo Hing Museum is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. with free admission. Arise – A Music & Film Benefit. This event begins in the courtyard at 3:30 p.m. with mental health wellness speakers, a silent auction, and free live music. At 7 p.m. in Castle Theater, enjoy the beautiful Hawaiian music of Keola Beamer and Kumu Hula Moanalani Beamer in concert, followed by the world premiere screening of “The Quietest Place on Earth” directed by Tom Vendetti. This beautiful film explores the unique properties of Haleakala Crater – “a place where silence echoes silence”. There will be a presentation by Gordon Hempton, the sound tracker who found ‘the quietest place on Earth’. Helping Paws Visitor Volunteer Program

Helping Paws Visitor Volunteer Program. Do you miss your pet when traveling? Visitors can offer a “helping paw” to homeless animals at the Maui Humane Society shelter, located in Pu`unene (central Maui), on Mokulele Hwy. between Kihei and Kahului. 1 to 3 p.m. Help with such activities as walking dogs, bathing puppies, brushing cats, or playing with puppies and kittens. Arrive by 1 p.m. and wear close-toed shoes and comfortable clothing that you don’t mind getting dirty. For Maui visitors only. Children age 10 to 17 are welcome when accompanied by a supervising adult for the duration. Advance reservations required.
