Pan-Pacific Hula Festival

Oahu

Friday, June 7:
Pan-Pacific Hula Festival.  The traditional Hawaiian fine art of hula has become very popular worldwide and especially in Japan, where there are more than 200,000 practitioners of this time-honored dance. The Pan-Pacific Hula Festival provides a dream opportunity for many of these groups who practice all year long, in anticipation of dancing the hula in Hawai`i.  See hula groups from across Japan performing their interpretation of the hula on stage. There will also be a special exhibition performance by local halau, Halau O Napuala Ikauika Iu led by Kumu Hula Sally Yoza. Kuhio Beach Hula Mound, 2431 Kalakaua Ave., Honolulu.  4-10 p.m.  For information call (808) 926-8177, ext. 279, or visit www.pan-pacific-festival.com.
