August 18 – 26:
Duke’s OceanFest 2018:  Waikiki’s Premier Ocean Sports Festival.  The annual Duke’s OceanFest features a variety of ocean sports that were close to Duke Kahanamoku’s heart, including Longboard Surfing, Paddleboard Racing, Swimming, Tandem Surfing, Surf Polo, Beach Volleyball, and Stand-Up Paddling.  The festival celebrates Duke Kahanamoku’s life, his athletic contributions, and his spirit that still lives on. The festival also includes a number of surfing events, including a Keiki Surf Competition, a Wahine Longboard Competition, a Kane Longboard Competition, and tandem events. Friday, August 17: 
Battleship Missouri Presents its Picnic on the Pier.  The event includes prize giveaways, keiki activities, free tours of the Mighty Mo (valued at $29 for adults), and entertainment by local entertainers Simple Souls. The pier will provide fun for all ages with giant Jenga, TicTacToe and checkers. Guests will be able to capture the moment at the Photo Booth. Guests are welcome to BYOFD (Bring Your Own Food & Drink) to the event; however, grills and glass containers are prohibited. Food and craft beverages are also available from local vendors. Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar Festival “Waikiki Style”.  Festival to feature some of the top artists in the Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar Genre performing for 6 solid hours on the beautiful grounds of the Waikiki Aquarium. Festival will also feature local arts and crafts, snacks, soft drinks and other favorite local foods. A minimum of 15 artists will perform as soloist, duos, or a complete band showcasing the many different styles of slack key guitar from the traditional to the more contemporary styles of younger artists. The Best of Aloha Shorts – Live!  For a taste of local literature and local culture, Hawai`i Public Radio presents a one-night only revival of their hit local program “Aloha Shorts” to celebrate the recent publication by Bamboo Ridge Press of the anthology THE BEST OF ALOHA SHORTS. The best of the poems and stories by Hawai`i’s authors from this collection will be read by the original actors. Music by Aloha Shorts house band Hamajang. Book signing follows the event.
