Kaneohe Christmas Parade

Saturday, December 2:
Kaneohe Christmas Parade.
  Each year Kaneohe rings in the holiday season with its historic parade starting at Windward Mall and ending at Castle High School, along the following route: From Haiku Road and Alaloa, makai (ocean side) on Haiku Road, right on Kamehameha Highway (remaining in the Honolulu-bound lanes until Hoene Place intersection). The parade will then cross over to the Kahaluu-bound lanes of Kamehameha Hwy., left on Kaneohe Bay Dr., and right into Castle High School parking lot. 9 a.m. to noon.  For more information visit KaneoheChristmasParade@yahoo.com.

Honolulu City Lights.
A month long Christmas lights and decorations display.  Highlights include the large outdoor tree, Shaka Santa and Mrs. Claus, indoor tree display and corridor of wreaths. Free activities and events, food vendors and children’s rides at cost.  Scheduled for opening night, Saturday, December 2:  4 p.m. – Food booths and keiki (children’s) rides open at Sky Gate; 6 p.m. – Tree Lighting Ceremony at Honolulu Hale, Electric Light Parade begins at A`ala Park down King Street; 6:30 p.m. – Lighting of the City Christmas Tree. Waikiki Holiday Parade

Waikiki Holiday Parade.
  The parade commemorates Pearl Harbor by honoring survivors and veterans in memory of the attacks from December 7, 1941. Local Hawaiian bands, marching bands from the mainland, military units, local officials and dignitaries march down torch-lit Kalakaua Avenue along Waikiki Beach. It is held annually the Friday following Thanksgiving Day and hosts thousands of spectators, residents and visitors alike. The parade will feature more than 30 bands from the mainland. Parade begins at 7 p.m., from Fort DeRussy Park, continues for approximately 1.5 miles along Kalakaua Ave., ending at Queen Kapiolani Park. Makahiki Festival and Ke`alohi Hula Competition

Makahiki Festival and Ke`alohi Hula Competition.
  Originally established in 1981, this event was part of Waimea Valley’s annual Makahiki festivities until 1995. The competition was successfully revived in 2014 and has been held every year since then. The original spirit of this competition has been preserved, with women and men competing for a single hula kahiko (ancient hula) title. Competitors perform one kahiko hula, and between each of these, halau representing the entrants take the stage.
