KTUH 50th Golden Anniversary with Legendary Guitarist Richard Thompson and DJ Z-Trip

Oahu

October 04, 2019 – October 05, 2019:
KTUH 50th Golden Anniversary with Legendary Guitarist Richard Thompson and DJ Z-Trip. Perhaps it was just a coincidence that Apollo 11 was launched to space at just about the same time KTUH made its maiden voyage into Hawaii’s airspace.
From its humble 60 watt beginnings in 1969 to the present day 7,000 watts, KTUH has been a force to be reckoned with – bold sounds, totally student driven, alternative, edgy. This has been the vision for KTUH for 50 years and what listeners and supporters expect. 50 years on the air, 24/7 all year round island-wide coverage is no small feat and KTUH is celebrating this milestone in style.
KTUH is excited to announce The Richard Thompson Electric Trio headlining our October 4th celebration at Hawaiian Brian’s in Honolulu. Direct from the UK and a sold out concert at the Royal Albert Hall, legendary musician Richard Thompson will be there with KTUH alumni and ardent fans. Not to be missed will be the opportunity to meet Fred Barbaria, KTUH’s co-founder and General Manager (1969 – 1973) and the line of subsequent general managers, including Smee Wong, KTUH’s current General Manager.
The concert with the famed Richard Thompson Electric Trio will begin at 8:00pm, followed by The KTUH After Party featuring Z-Trip from 11:00pm till closing. Other KTUH 50th anniversary celebration events include a silent auction, a KTUH merchandise store, and KTUH themed trivia.
Listeners should go to ktuh.org for a link to purchase tickets or directly to ktuh50.brownpapertickets.com

Children Of Eden

Oahu

September 06, 2019 – September 29, 2019:
Children Of Eden. In the tradition and spirit of Ron Bright, the full-scale fall production by the I’m A Bright Kid Foundation (IABK) at Paliku Theatre in Kaneohe, will feature some of Hawaii’s leading community performers in a story of family, forgiveness and second chances.
Synopsis: Stephen Schwartz and John Caird’s musical, Children Of Eden casts the beloved biblical stories of Genesis through the personal lens of family. An epic musical, Children Of Eden starts with the very beginning: the creation of the universe. Father breathes life into his children, Adam and Eve, and learns that the hardest part of being a loving Father is letting go. It’s a lesson that translates into the parenting of Cain, Abel, and Seth — and is reiterated once again as Noah parents his sons Shem, Ham, and Japheth. This joyous and inspiring musical celebrates the difficulty of choice, the importance of passion, the value of questioning, and the pain in allowing those you love to take risks and face the consequences. In order to capture the expanse of humanity, this play is traditionally performed with a multi-ethnic cast. Performances:
The musical will open at Paliku Theatre on the campus of the Windward Community College in Kaneohe on September 6, 2019 and will run weekends until September 29, 2019. For tickets and further information on Children Of Eden and the IABK 2019 Season please visit the IABK website at http://www.imabrightkid.org
