The festival kicks off at 9 a.m. with the opening ceremony\, followed by a conch shell blowing contest for all ages. Enjoy traditional Hawaiian music with hula by various halau (hula schools). The festival will have traditional arts and crafts and food. DESCRIPTION:Tuesday\, June 11: \nKing Kamehameha Day in Kohala.  North Kohala is a very special place to celebrate this annual Hawaiian holiday. Kamehameha I was born in North Kohala\, where residents played a prominent role in saving his life as an infant. Events start at 7 a.m. at the King Kamehameha Statue\, located at 55-3415 Akoni Pule Hwy\, in Kapa`au\, with a 25-foot long floral lei draping.  The parade starts at 9 a.m.\, in Hawi\, going northeast to the statue in Kapa`au and back to Kamehameha Park.
