DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, September 22: \nFee-Free Day: National Public Lands Day – Hawai`i Volcanoes National Park.  NPLD is the nation’s largest\, single-day volunteer effort for public lands. Come to Hawai`i Volcanoes National Park and help ensure the future of the Hawaiian rainforest. Volunteers will help remove invasive\, non-native plants that prevent native plants from growing. Meet at Kilauea Visitor Center. Wear sturdy hiking shoes and long pants. Bring a hat\, rain gear\, day pack\, snacks and water. Gloves and tools are provided. No advance registration is required. SUMMARY:Chinese Moon Festival
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, September 22:\nChinese Moon Festival.  Lahaina pays tribute to the island’s harvest of locally grown produce as well as honored traditions from China during its annual Moon Festival at the Wo Hing Museum and Cookhouse on Front Street. A display of colorful lanterns and offerings to the moon goddess provide the backdrop for teas served in the garden to the accompaniment of traditional music performed on the gu zheng harp. Families can enjoy cultural art activities like calligraphy and knot tying. Kids can learn how to make paper lanterns. Local artists will demonstrate painting the moon in honor of the festival\, and youth will perform traditional fan and ribbon dances. Hear a talk on the history of moon festivals in China. Chinese food will be sold at the event\, and traditional moon cakes will be available for sale all week.
