Enjoy celebrity tributes\, filmmaker panels\, and special events\, as well as the film features! \nIndividual tickets and a variety of individual user passes are available. For more information\, visit the Maui Film Festival website for pass options and the full schedule of films & events! \nCASTLE THEATER SCHEDULE: \nFriday\, June 14 \nONE (3:00 pm) \nAddiction…incarceration…family trauma. We’ve become a culture that enshrines pain while at the same time offering it as entertainment. But how can we go beyond the seductive reality show narrative of shattered lives? How can we find the missing pieces that will allow us to heal and transcend? This powerful\, visually arresting film explores the elusive bridge between the broken and the unbreakable. Using the words of the great Zen scholar\, Alan Watts\, the filmmakers link hardcore devastation to a powerful awareness of our deeper humanity. ONE is an emotionally visual journey that asks the questions: What do we want? What would satisfy us? What is it that we are really yearning after? Not rated/77 min. (not recommended for children; parental discretion advised) \nCLICK HERE to view the trailer \n  \nGAY CHORUS DEEP SOUTH (5:00 pm) \nTo confront a resurgence of faith-based anti-LGBTQ laws brought about in the Trump era\, conductor Tim Seelig leads 300 singers of the San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus on a bus tour of the deep south\, showcasing fine music\, confronting political and religious intolerance\, and challenging his own troubled past with the church. Joined by the Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir\, they bring a message of music\, love\, and acceptance to communities often on the frontlines against intolerance. ONE CANOE (12:00 pm) \nThis powerful documentary celebrates the historic Mālama Honua worldwide voyage that connected countless individuals and communities from around the globe. It was a voyage that also represented the fulfillment of the vision of Nainoa Thompson and his contemporaries—the passing of the mantle to the next generation of kānaka maoli who will retain the skills of their ancestors and perpetuate this tradition for generations to come. \nRated PG/96 min. This film is FREE for kids 12 and under. \nCLICK HERE to view the trailer \n  \nCRACKED UP (3:00 pm) \nWith courage and\, of course\, humor\, master impressionist\, comedian and Saturday Night Live veteran Darrell Hammond reveals his dark history of child abuse. Brilliant in the spotlight\, Darrell was misdiagnosed and wrongly medicated for decades\, struggling with drugs\, alcohol and nightmarish flashbacks. Michelle Esrick’s poignant film illuminates the devastating effects of childhood trauma and the importance of setting repressed memories free. She artfully balances humor and tragedy to craft a beautiful story of hope and resilience. Follow four champion groomers and their gorgeous\, vibrant dogs through a year in the life on the Technicolor competition circuit\, playfully exploring their creative process. From South Carolina to California and from New York to Arkansas\, these women are revolutionizing the age-old question\, ‘what is art?’ Director Rebecca Stern has captured an up-close and revealing look at pets\, families\, friendships\, and the glory of dog grooming through a bright spectrum of color. Freshman Izzy Alden is still a virgin and the crush party is her last chance to do something about it before summer break.  She and her two best friends\, Anuka and Fiona\, chase their crushes both in real life and online\, but Izzy’s moral compass skews as the night progresses and it seems her quest to have sex might cost Izzy her friends. SUMMARY:Keller Williams
DESCRIPTION:Friday\, June 7\, 2019:\nKeller Williams is an American singer\, songwriter\, and musician who combines elements of bluegrass\, folk\, alternative rock\, reggae\, electronica/dance\, jazz\, and funk\, along with other assorted genres. He is often described as a ‘one-man jam-band’ due to his frequent use of live phrase looping with multiple instruments. Since he first appeared on the scene in the early ’90s\, Keller Williams has defined the term independent artist\, and his 16 albums tell only half the story. Keller built his reputation initially on his engaging live performances\, no two of which are ever alike. Williams’ solo live shows—and his ability to improvise to his determinedly quirky tunes despite the absence of an actual band—quickly became the stuff of legend\, and his audience grew exponentially when word spread about this exciting\, unpredictable performer. Today\, whether performing as a one-man band\, with a backup band\, or solo acoustic\, Keller always reveals himself as an artist of great stylistic breadth and infinite imagination. He is always on a quest for the new\, never following the prescribed path laid out by the conventional music business but rather the one of his own making. mauiarts.org/calendar

SUMMARY:Chris Thomas King
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, June 6\, 2019:\nChris Thomas King. Blues Bear Hawaii is proud to present Chris Thomas King\, master practitioner of traditional Delta Blues and contemporary Blues\, on tour behind his new release\, “Hotel Voodoo.”  Born in Baton Rouge\, Louisiana\, he is the son of blues musician\, Tabby Thomas\, and was recognized as a prodigy musician as a child. Chris turned pro while still in his teens. His debut album was very much in a traditional blues vein\, but he soon found himself on a mission to prevent the blues from becoming a museum piece\, becoming the first bluesman to successfully fuse hip-hop and other genres to create a new Blues for the 21st century. King was chosen by the Coen brothers to play the role of itinerant bluesman\, Tommy Johnson\, alongside George Clooney in the movie “O Brother\, Where Art Thou?” King has sold over 10 million records and won numerous awards\, including “Album of the Year” at both the Grammy and Country Music Awards. He took a fresh re-approach to traditional blues\, even recording an album of Tommy Johnson- and Robert Johnson-inspired originals.  Chris has continued to develop his second\, very active career as actor and music composer or director\, which earned him a Grammy for the soundtrack of the Ray Charles biopic\, “Ray\,” as well as a role in the HBO series Treme. “Hotel Voodoo” is King’s first studio album in five years\, proving he is at the peak of his powers as a blues rock guitar tour de force on par with legendary greats Jimi Hendrix\, Stevie Ray Vaughn\, Eric Clapton\, and Buddy Guy. Mauiarts.org
