DESCRIPTION:October 19\, 2019:\nNorth Shore Noodle Bike Ride.\nPRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED. RSVP!\nMeet at the old Kmart parking lot in Kahului (424 Dairy Road\, Kahului\, HI 96732) at 8:45am.\nThe event will begins at 9:00 a.m\, riding 6 miles together together to PAIA ON THE WIDE SHOULDER OF THE HANA HWY and 6 miles back for a total of 12 miles. Trained ride leaders will lead and trail the group and each participant will be provided with a pool noodle to attach and extend out 3′ to the left of each bike. The noodle will be colorful\, flexible\, and marked with “3-Foot Law”.\nAfter the ride\, all are welcome to join us at DOWN TO EARTH HAWAII for brunch/lunch (non-host).\nThe intent is to remind vehicle drivers that there is a new 3-Foot Law in Hawaii (as well as 36 other states) to keep at least a three foot distance from cyclists at all times in order to make the roads safer for all.\nWe hope this ride will communicate the importance of giving cyclists space\, a rule not all drivers are aware of. Our additional messages are to remind both drivers and cyclists to respect the rules of the road and to respect each other. The Maui Marathon is the longest consecutively held running event in the state of Hawaii and is the oldest marathon west of the Mississippi River. It has been chosen as one of the top 10 Most Scenic Marathons in the nation by Runner’s World magazine (Feb. 96)\, and the #10 destination marathon in North America\, by the Ultimate Guide to Marathons. The Maui Marathon has developed a reputation over the years as a quality running event. This is due in great part to the many volunteers and community support generated\, year after year\, for this charity fundraising running event. There is a full marathon\, half marathon\, 10K\, 5K and a newly added full marathon relay. The full marathon and marathon relay starts in Kahului and ends in Kaanapali with scenic views along most of the course. The half marathon\, 10K and 5K starts and ends in Kaanapali with beautiful ocean views along the way. Thousands of colorful athletes and personalities have participated in this event over the years and look forward to it with each coming spring. Hui Noeau Visual Arts Center in collaboration with East Maui Watershed Partnership (EMWP) brings you Malama Wao Akua (Caring for the Realm of the Gods) – a juried art exhibition celebrating the native species of Maui Nui (Maui\, Lanai\, Molokai\, Kahoolawe). We invite Maui artists to explore our watersheds and use their creative talents to raise awareness about the importance of protecting native species.\nSelected artwork should be successful in sharing knowledge of the watersheds and native species with others in a meaningful way.  Artwork will also be selected based upon a number of criteria\, including originality of concept\, creativity\, technique\, professionalism\, and presentation. Our hope is that Maui artists of all ages will explore our watersheds and express the value that native species have within our daily life. This exhibition is sure to provide powerful visuals that celebrate Maui’s native plant and animal life. A jurying team with expertise in both art and conservation will select from among the pool of entries. Works in any medium are welcome with entry divisions for elementary school\, middle school\, high school\, and adult!\nHui Noeau Exhibitions are made possible with support from the Hawaii Tourism Authority.
