The mission of HCC is to perpetuate and preserve the art of Hawaiian canoe paddling by providing an environment rooted in traditional Hawaiian values that promote personal growth\, character development\, and achievement in physical fitness.

Hui Noeau Visual Arts Center in collaboration with East Maui Watershed Partnership (EMWP) brings you Malama Wao Akua (Caring for the Realm of the Gods) – a juried art exhibition celebrating the native species of Maui Nui (Maui\, Lanai\, Molokai\, Kahoolawe). We invite Maui artists to explore our watersheds and use their creative talents to raise awareness about the importance of protecting native species.\nSelected artwork should be successful in sharing knowledge of the watersheds and native species with others in a meaningful way.  Artwork will also be selected based upon a number of criteria\, including originality of concept\, creativity\, technique\, professionalism\, and presentation. Our hope is that Maui artists of all ages will explore our watersheds and express the value that native species have within our daily life. This exhibition is sure to provide powerful visuals that celebrate Maui’s native plant and animal life. A jurying team with expertise in both art and conservation will select from among the pool of entries. DESCRIPTION:September 04\, 2019 – September 07\, 2019:\nKauluhiwaolele Maui Fiber Arts Conference.Kaanapali Beach Hotel is proud to host Kauluhiwaolele\, its second annual Maui Fiber Arts Conference\, from September 4-7\, 2019. Led by master weaver Pohaku Kahoohanohano from Kahakuloa\, Maui and Gayle Miyaguchi\, Kaanapali Beach Hotel’s Cultural Resource Specialist\, the conference draws master weavers from all over Hawaii to share their expertise during the four-day event. Participants will be immersed in weaving\, developing and honing skills and techniques in this ancient Hawaiian art. New and expanded options for weaving classes will include pu hala (hala leaves)\, ieie (woody vine woven into baskets)\, koko (knotting sennit to create nets) and upena (fish net). Although classes are for registrants only\, the public is welcome to attend the Kauluhiwaolele Festival on Friday and Saturday. Weaving workshops will be held in the lobby for any skill level\, in addition to a craft fair. Daily presentations by knowledgeable kumu will cover related fiber arts topics. On Saturday\, a silent auction will be held with one-of-a-kind\, handmade items\, as well as the Celebration of Kauluhiwaolele Fiber Arts with a dinner of local favorites and live Hawaiian music. Submerge yourself in the tropical flora of the vast McBryde Garden as an assistant to our Horticulture staff.\nMcBryde Garden volunteers experience an adventure under a canopy of tropical plants. If you’re seeking full exposure with nature\, while performing light to moderate physical activity\, you’re a great fit.\nUnder the heat of the sun\, or the misting light rain\, you may be helping maintain one of several trails\, exhibit beds\, removing weeds\, raking\, or participate in a mulching day!\nService tasks vary with weather and plant growth.
