This event honors the traditional time of year from November through February when Lono the god of agriculture and peace ruled the land. One of the ways that Lono was honored was through friendly competition. The games will include 10 games – Haka Moa\, Ulu Maika\, Ihe\, Moa Pahee\, Pa Uma\, Uma\, Kukini\, Pohaku Hooikaika\, and Hukihuki\, plus a Konane tournament. Kamaaina and Mailihini (visitors) ages 5 and above are invited to compete in multiple events. Awards will be given for 1st – 3rd in each event and division\, and for overall 1st – 3rd. There will also be cultural demonstrations\, community displays\, a Kaua`i made craft fair and ono food. No admission fee. Visitors can offer a “helping paw” to homeless animals at the Maui Humane Society shelter\, located in Pu`unene (central Maui)\, on Mokulele Hwy. between Kihei and Kahului. 1 to 3 p.m. Help with such activities as walking dogs\, bathing puppies\, brushing cats\, or playing with puppies and kittens. Arrive by 1 p.m. and wear close-toed shoes and comfortable clothing that you don’t mind getting dirty. For Maui visitors only.
