Duo Diorama comprises Chinese violinist MingHuan Xu and Canadian pianist Winston Choi. This husband and wife duo are compelling and versatile artists with a startlingly fresh and powerful approach to music for violin and piano. Here is what the critics say about Duo Diorama: “…extraordinary communication and interpretative exuberance…” (A Tribuna\, Santos\, Brazil) “Both players were terrific.” (New Music Connoisseur) “Together it is a wonderful dynamic.” (Victor Yampolsky\, conductor) “…an amazing pair of instrumentalists….Technical difficulties pose no problems.” (The Arts Fuse) Their program comprises a challenging and exciting range of styles and musical approaches. Featured works are Maurice Ravel’s lush “Sonata” for violin and piano\, a twentieth century classic\, and iconic American composer\, Elliott Carter’s epic “Duo” from 1972\, for violin and piano. The program also includes twenty-first century works by Winston Choi\, Igor Santos\, and Robert Pollock. “We are thrilled to return to Kauai\, and present this Chicago-based\, husband and wife team\,” says Robert Pollock\, Executive Director of Ebb & Flow Arts. “Duo Diorama performs modern works as if they were the classics\,” he adds. Duo Diorama has commissioned and premiered over 20 works.
