DESCRIPTION:September 14\, 2019:\nMoon Festival. Celebrate the Chinese Moon Festival and taste traditional tea and mooncakes in the beautifully decorated Tea Garden. The Tea Master presents the history and traditions of tea\, along with tea tasting and moon cakes for sampling and sale. Special moon cakes are available; sweet\, round cakes in the shape of the moon. There will also be presentations and displays in the historic Cookhouse. Live Chinese music entertains the attendees\, cultural practitioners offer free hands on cultural activities\, such as Calligraphy\, and a special craft activity for the keiki (children). Wo Hing Museum\, Cookhouse and Grounds will be open from 10 am to 9 pm on Friday with free admission. The four days prior to the event\, the museum is open 10 am-4 pm with free admission. \n

Paddlers gather from Hawaii\, USA\, Canada\, Australia and more to test themselves in excellent channel crossing conditions. Since it’s inceptiont he race has caught on and considered to be the most consistent and funnesty canoe race in Hawaii. The Pailolo Challenge is organized and staffed by Hawaiian Canoe Club. The mission of HCC is to perpetuate and preserve the art of Hawaiian canoe paddling by providing an environment rooted in traditional Hawaiian values that promote personal growth\, character development\, and achievement in physical fitness.

Hui Noeau Visual Arts Center in collaboration with East Maui Watershed Partnership (EMWP) brings you Malama Wao Akua (Caring for the Realm of the Gods) – a juried art exhibition celebrating the native species of Maui Nui (Maui\, Lanai\, Molokai\, Kahoolawe). We invite Maui artists to explore our watersheds and use their creative talents to raise awareness about the importance of protecting native species.\nSelected artwork should be successful in sharing knowledge of the watersheds and native species with others in a meaningful way.  Artwork will also be selected based upon a number of criteria\, including originality of concept\, creativity\, technique\, professionalism\, and presentation. Our hope is that Maui artists of all ages will explore our watersheds and express the value that native species have within our daily life. This exhibition is sure to provide powerful visuals that celebrate Maui’s native plant and animal life. A jurying team with expertise in both art and conservation will select from among the pool of entries. Works in any medium are welcome with entry divisions for elementary school\, middle school\, high school\, and adult!\nHui Noeau Exhibitions are made possible with support from the Hawaii Tourism Authority.

The all-day Taste of the Hawaiian Range is Saturday\, Sept. 7 at Mana Christian Ohana (Old Kahilu Town Hall) and the adjacent YMCA Minuke Ole Park in Waimea. The 2019 Taste will again offer daytime agricultural-themed activities before culminating with an evening tasting event showcasing locally produced food. Outdoor fun is 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at the YMCA Minuke Ole Park behind Parker Ranch Center. Geared for families\, the Taste Agriculture Festival includes educational exhibits under the big top and vendors offering products using locally sourced plants and animals. Attendees can view livestock animals provided by 4-H; horseback rides will be available for a nominal fee. Youth can visit the free Keiki Farm Hands tent sponsored by the Hawaii Farm Bureau. Children can pedal their own kid-sized tractor\, use tiny farm tools\, plant a seed to take home and grow\, plus “milk” a hand-painted replica of a Holstein cow. In addition\, there will be a display of live chicks and thriving vegetable plants. Admission to the daytime agriculture festival is free as well as the annual Cooking Pasture-Raised Beef 101 demonstration with sampling from 2:30-4 p.m. The ticketed Taste gala is 5:30-7:30 p.m. inside and out of the Old Kahilu Town Hall.
