Kamehameha Day Celebration

Tuesday, June 11th, from 9 AM – 4 PM:
Kamehameha Day Celebration Baldwin Home Museum will celebrate King Kamehameha’s birthday on June 11. Kamehameha Day is a state holiday honoring the memory of the great king, Kamehameha I, who united the Hawaiian Islands and became Hawai`i’s first king in 1810. The event will begin at 9 am with the presentation of ho’okupu to honor King Kamehameha I.
Beginning at 10 am, the public can participate in Hawaiian games on the museum grounds.  Attendees are encouraged to try their hand at ulu maika (similar to lawn bowling) or attempt to throw a wooden spear into the trunk of a banana tree. Konane boards will be available for those wanting to play the Hawaiian board game similar to checkers.  Attendees can also participate in hands on Hawaiian craft activities.
The day will end at 2 pm with live music by George Kahumoku, with concert seating set up in the shade of the trees on the Baldwin Home lawn.
The Baldwin Home Museum will offer free admission from 10 am to 4 pm.
