Voices of Aloha Presents: For the Beauty of the Earth Spring Concert
June 02, 2019:
Voices of Aloha Presents: For the Beauty of the Earth Spring Concert. Hawaii has been traditionally a meeting place of many different races and cultures, and this variety of time and place will be reflected in our Spring Concert. The first part will feature music from mainland America, from the earliest known composers, folk tunes, reflections on the early music and original pieces by contemporary composers. Then we will go on a journey starting from and ending in Hawaii, with settings by contemporary composers of traditional music from Japan, China, India and the Middle East. The program will be conducted by Music Director Sangeet Gellhorn who is also the director of the Temple Emanu-El High Holydays choir. He previously directed the choirs for the Unitarian Church and the Central Union Church. Sangeet joined Voices of Aloha as the new music director in August 2018. Leilani Motet will be the accompanist. Leilani holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Pedagogy from Texas Christian University and is currently on the staff at the Ellen Masaki School of Music. The evening will feature special guest musicians: Yazhi Nie on guzheng (Chinese zither), David Davis on cello, Kip McAtee on oud, Tara Severns on drums, and VoA president Creig Lam on guitar. Doors open at 5:30 pm
