Throughout the Month of August: Obon Dance & Festival. The Obon tradition was brought to Hawai`i by Japanese immigrants and evolved into a social and cultural event, as well as a religious custom designed to honor ancestors through an evening of dance, music and merry-making. Obon Dance & Festival – Hakalau Jodo Mission
August 17, 2019: Obon Dance & Festival - Hakalau Jodo Mission. The summer Obon season perpetuates the Buddhist tradition of honoring the spirit of those passed on celebrated with special services and festivals. The festival includes food booths, taiko drummers and other colorful sights and sounds, bon dances that have become a cultural touchstone for all in Hawaii. Free to enjoy!
