Saturday, August 11: 
Hawaii Sand Festival and Sand Castle/Art Contest.  Everyone is invited to come to this FREE event and build their own sand castle or sand art and enjoy the music. Individuals or teams of any size are all welcome. For keikis (kids), young and old, beginners, artists and sand sculptors. Prizes will be awarded for different age groups, individuals, teams and types of art. Bring your own shovels, pails, tools, molds, sprayers (very helpful) for sculpting sand. Bring a hat or shade, sunscreen, food, and drinking water. 11:00 – Free registration and start of the event. 11:30 – Free lesson by world renowned sand sculpture and teacher Jeff Peterson. 3:30 – Final judging. 4:00 – Awards ceremony.  Location is to the left of Hanalei pier.

Hanalei River Fair.  Hanalei’s newest venue showcasing artisans, craftsman, product and produce merchants from all over the island.  Explore the booths filled with local talent, enjoy great food, fresh produce and refreshing drinks. 11th Annual Heiva I Kauai Iorana Tahiti, Cultural Festival in Kapa’a.  An international Tahitian dance competition with solo and group performances and traditional and contemporary Tahitian drumming competition. Dance exhibitions by award winning Te Vai Ura Nui daily. Polynesian artists & cultural demonstrations, Island foods and Polynesian crafts available, silent auction daily, Tahitian dance and drumming workshops, and more. Art Night in Hanapepe.  Every Friday evening, Old Town Hanapepe is bustling with fun & activity! Obon Dance & Festival.  The Obon tradition was brought to Hawaii by Japanese immigrants and evolved into a social and cultural event, as well as a religious custom designed to honor ancestors through an evening of dance, music and merry-making.
