A Taste of Kilohana. An exclusive, guided food tour that offers a seasonal taste of Kilohana Plantation. Ride an open-air plantation-style train through the 105-acre orchard, amidst more than 50 varieties of exotic fruit trees. Disembark and feed wild boar, goats and chickens and stroll through the orchard with Kai, Kilohana’s expert in local agriculture. Pick, eat, and learn how to select and prepare exotic tropical fruit. Tour the historic Manor House. Learn how to make Gaylord’s signature mai tai at Mahiko Lounge. Ka Moku O Manokalanipo Makahiki
Saturday, January 18:
Ka Moku O Manokalanipo Makahiki. This celebration honors the traditional time of year from October through January when Lono the god of agriculture and peace ruled the land. One of the ways that Lono was honored was through friendly competition. The games will include ‘Ulu Maika (lawn bowling), O’o Ihe (spear throwing), Moa Pahe’e (dart sliding), Pa Uma (standing armwrestling), Uma (arm wrestling), kukini (foot racing), Pohaku Ho’oikaika (stone throwing) and Hukihuki (tug of war). There will also be a Konane (Hawaiian checkers) tournament, hula, cultural practitioners, and Hawaiian food. Kama’aina of all ages are welcome to compete in multiple events. Kaua`i Community Players Presents: Closer. The 2014 season will open with an adult drama, Closer, by London playwright Patrick Marber, directed by Faith Harding. Closer is adult fare, having sexually-explicit language and themes. Closer originally played London’s Royal National Theatre in 1997. It won the Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Play and the New York Drama Critics Circle Award for best foreign play. It was adapted for the American stage and was nominated for a Tony Award in 1999. The movie version was directed by Mike Nichols and starred Julia Roberts, Natalie Portman, Clive Owens and Jude Law.
