Throughout the Month of July: 
Obon Dance & Festival.
 The Obon tradition was brought to Hawai`i by Japanese immigrants and evolved into a social and cultural event, as well as a religious custom designed to honor ancestors through an evening of dance, music and merry-making.  Free.  Festivities and Dance schedules and locations are listed below (subject to change):

  • Friday & Satuarday, July 6 & 7: Koloa Jodo Mission, 3480 Waikomo Rd., Koloa. Dancing 7:30 p.m.  For information call (808) 742-6735.
  • Friday & Saturday, July 13 & 14:  West Kaua`i Hongwanji Mission (WKHM), 4675 Menehune Rd., Waimea .  Dancing 7:30 p.m.  For information call (808) 338-1847.
  • Friday & Saturday, July 20 & 21:  Kapa`a Hongwanji, 4-1170 Kuhio Hwy., Kapaa.  Dancing 7:30 p.m.  For information call (808) 822-4667.
